Didn’t realize there was a right and wrong limit to how much music someone could listen to hmm also don’t see in my post where I said I only liked the closer but you read what you wanna read but seriously, not every album needs multiple listens. If I like it, I like it. And I “rate it” as that. Music doesn’t have to be complicated and not every album has to be dissected and evaluated and stuff. I’ve gone back to numerous albums multiple times. Spent an entire day with new Jeff Rosenstock album. Otherwise it’s just listening to one after another while working.
Idk it takes me probably 3 listens to start to form a real opinion depending on the artist. I have things from early this year I haven't fully formed a verdict on. But yeah you can obviously listen to music however you want lol I just don't get it
There's no right or wrong you're certainly right about that. Sorry if it seemed like I was coming for you, wasn't my intention. My posts were all extremely lighthearted. Again, you do you Haven't checked out the new Rosenstock but it's on my list of shit to listen to asap
my apologies as well for my asshole response. Way too much snarkiness and typical internet attitude in my post. Bleh. not that anyone cares for an explanation, but I made it my goal to listen to as much new music in 2020 as I could because I was finding myself listening to the same stuff over and over and over again. Hell, if it wasn’t for that goal I never would have listened to Saint Cloud and never posted in this thread and never found some great songs and a killer closer! Hell, I’d never even heard the name or the artist/band before seeing it listed on the new release list when it came out - that’s how in the dark I am with music lately lol So, yeah, I listen to a lot and I have a running Excel file with reminders of stuff to go back to and to visit full discography of certain artists. And sure there are some days I run through 8-12 albums but there are also days where I just revisit stuff (if I “like” something I put it on a playlist I use for runs so I have something new but beginning to feel familiar) I’ve already listened to this year or get real hooked on something and play it several times. I have no end goal number I want to hit so I can’t be disappointed at the end of the year, but I also don’t think much about music beyond the first layer of it, but I get that others do dive in or need multiple listens to decide if they like something (and I’ve done that as well and changed my opinion on quite a few things this year after revisits several weeks/months later)
I think it’s sick that someone can listen to that many albums in one year. I never could, as I take forever to get around to listening to new things, but I love hearing about people ravenously consuming music.
No worries at all. That's awesome. What's your favorite record you've heard this year from an artist you'd never listened to before?
To be honest, the majority of records I’ve listened to have been by artists I’ve never heard from. Many might be well known around here but some of my favorites of 2020 so far are all from bands / artists I’d never heard of before this year (no order): Andy Schauf - The Neon Skyline Katie Pruitt - Expectations Dryjacket - Going Out of Business Jeff Rosenstock - NO DREAM Circa Waves - Sad Happy Ken Yates - Quiet Talkers Futurebirds - Teamwork Joywave - Possession Charli Adams - Good at Being Young EP Beach Bunny - Honeymoon Dance Gavin Dance - Afterburner A Girl Called Eddy - Been Around Dolorifics - Welcome to Dolograd Big Loser - Love You, Barely Living Dia Lipa - Future Nostalgia I’m Glad It’s You - Every Sun, Every Moon Gleemer - Down Through
@ImAMetaphor you should check out the new OHMME record Fantasize Your Ghost which comes out next month. Seems up your alley. Check out the singles from the album.
this is one of those albums that I find it hard not to press play again as soon as it ends. it's just perfect!
I've spent the last few weeks digging into her discography, and I like everything I've heard. American Weekend and Out in the Storm in particular connected with me in a strong way. This one, however... wow. Immediately, this is the hardest one of her albums has hit me, and I'm already comfortable calling it my favorite. This style sounds so good on her and feels absolutely effortless. This is absolutely one of the best things I've heard all year.
Posted one of the tracks in here a couple months ago, but I highly recommend Kathleen Edwards' Total Freedom (which came out today) to anyone that was looking for more like this album.
Has someone made a thread for that album yet? It’s awesome and I definitely concur that a lot of fans of this album would like it.
