also, no idea what it means but the castle that Dr. Manhattan builds/destroys in his little flash to on mars seems to be the same one that Jeremy Irons aka old Ozmandias is hanging out at. Irons is writing a play called Watchmakers Son and Dr. Manhattan is a watchmakers son. also, are we assuming Irons' servants are robots?

This was a fantastic pilot.

 

solid first episode. love the look.

very excited to see how rest of season plays out.

 

Coming into this series completely blind, never read the comics or knew any of the characters until i heard of the HBO series...super pumped though, and now get to dig into the history.

 

I liked this much more than I expected. Production design is off the charts and the music is on point.

 

This was good. I have no idea where it’s going but I am in.

didn’t expect to lose that character so fast

 

Yeah, I thought that character was going to be central to the story. Was shocked at the ending.

 

I was hoping he would stick around on top of thinking it.

that score sounds incredible.

 

If the show continues mirroring that character's death and the death of The Comedian that kicks off the comic (as hinted by the final shot), then the character may still be around in flashbacks etc.

 

a few thoughts on the deal with Jeremy Irons, none of it is really spoilers cause I dont know anything for sure but for anyone who doesnt want speculation based on comic book knowledge ill put it in spoilers seems a popular theory that based on Ozymandias' cloning abilities, that he has managed to clone himself and the Ozymandias we are seeing now isn't the real one (as he is dead). they call his birthday "anniversary" and his cake has 1 candle on it

 

I thought it was the anniversary of his "alien invasion." Wasn't the cake kinda sorta in the shape of a squid monster?

 

True that absolutely could be, I’m totally speculating based on what few crumbs we have now. Manhattan building his mansion on mars and destroying it in that little clip must mean something too

 

I love how little they’ve explained but how much they’ve revealed about this world

Wow this exceeded my expectations, really excited for the next one.

 

Unsurprisingly, the show has a 50% audience score on RT due to Rorschach superfans complaining about race baiting and the writers of this show "not understanding" the gritty superhero source material

 

This is the best story I’ve seen on the small screen in years. Holy shit.

The fact that so many fragile white men are clutching their pearls over this show honestly makes me love it even more. Bunch of goddamn fools who don’t understand one bit of the source material. Their anger is giving me so much life.

HBO put up an archive of documents related to the show such as some Veidt background and the impact of Rorshachs journal

 

Those people didn’t really pay attention to Rorschach in the book then. Dude was always a sociopath with extreme views, he was not a symbol of morality. He’d fit right in with the alt right/fascist movement with no problem.

 

That entire book was political, it’s like what if America was even more imperialist?
