I really hated how he handled Dr. Manhattan in the movie, he took this nuanced character and turned him into a one dimensional robot
Yeah that too, also a really huge bungling of the source material in its own right. Man that movie sucks so much.
I remember being really excited for it when I saw the trailer before The Dark Knight, which lead me to buying the book and falling in love with it. The movie was such a letdown when I finally watched it. Parts of it were cool, especially the credit sequence, but it was just so lackluster.
Thought it was funny that Robert Redford becomes president in this universe instead of Ronald Reagan. Still making it an actor and keeping the initials.
And having it be a liberal actor as opposed to a conservative. According to those in-universe files on that website, the election of 1992 was a "Blue Wave" election, and Redford has been president for 7 straight terms. He's not seeking an eighth, however.
I'll need to do a little extra reading this afternoon to see what else has transpired since the comic. does it identify how often squid showers occur? Seems like a huge inconvenience. Theres no way all those squids are getting cleaned up every time. Tulsa probably smells rancid.
It doesn't confirm exactly how often they occur, but the memo about Rorschach's journal does confirm that they have happened frequently since 1985. The memo also mentions that the giant squid from the end of the graphic novel dissolved into water before scientists could study it, so I'm assuming that eventually those little squids do as well. It seemed like that's what was happening in the pilot also.
this was absolutely goddamn fantastic. now to continue defending Lindelof from my dumbass friends who only know LOST and Prometheus and think he's a hack *cracks knuckles*
I realized that I haven't read the graphic novel in over ten years so I just started it again so I can keep up with the show better
oh I know, they all need to see it but they're so goddamn stubborn. I've managed to convince one of my friends to watch the leftovers and he now numbers it with the greatest shows he's ever seen
the soundtrack might be reznor/ross’ best work yet. the music when they’re storming the ranch had me on edge
I really don't quite get the Lindelof hate. Lost was fantastic, The Leftovers is one of the best shows of the decade and Prometheus was very good -- the latter one was a Jon Spaihts story which Lindelof worked on to produce a shooting script so his involvement is debateable there. I understand that some people didn't like the Lost finale but that show was true to itself all the way to the end.
I stopped watching LOST at a certain point, but I was under the impression Lindelof wanted to finish it around s3 (roughly where I remember it being good up until) and the network/Abrams dragged it out? either way I only vaguely know how it ends, but as far as I'm concerned it could have been the worst finale literally of all time and The Leftovers still would have redeemed him and then some
