Eh not true. Especially when it comes to the punk/emo/hardcore scene. Furnace Fest, Slam Dunk, Bamboozle and Warped Tour have always released their lineups in waves. Riot Fest also do, or did at one point.
People saying "always" with Warped Tour need to go back earlier than like ... 2010. They used to just drop the poster with everyone on it.
DWP fests have been doing daily rollouts too but mainly for smaller to mid level artists. It does help for people who never heard of them
People need to get over it. It’s not worth complaining 5 times a day between 11am-7pm for the next 30 days.
Lyman's said he has taken this approach to let bands "shine" a bit more. And I think it'll also build hype so long as its balanced in a way similar to how it was done yesterday (with a mix of bands from different genres and eras). But I do have to challenge you a bit: While most of the bigger "mainstream" festivals announce line-ups all at once it's definitely not uncommon for fests to release them a band or two at a time, in smaller chunks, or in 2-3 "waves." Usually it's over the course of like, 6-8 months though. So this is much better than that. LOL If you pay attention to festivals other than like, Lolla or Coachella it's definitely something that happens. Supernova Ska is doing it right now. The Fest and Riot Fest both typically have multiple waves of announcements. Blue Ridge Rock Festival and Furnace Fest almost always announce smaller clusters of bands over time. And given that most of the bands were only on a select run of dates on the tour those posters were always pretty depressing once you saw what bands were on your leg. Haha. I distinctly remember very early on seeing the line-up and being real bummed when bands I wanted to see dropped off the date before or after mine.
As an impatient person, I kinda hate how stretched out the announces are, but I completely understand why they’re doing it. Build hype, give some lower-tier acts some spotlight… It’ll work
The Maine added in DC and Orlando. Looks like every 90 mins today. I am having fun engaging with the vans warped tour brand
I don't think that's true. I only went to Warped Tour from 2003 to 2009, and it was definitely a thing during those years. Maybe not all those years but definitely some of them.
Wonder if The Maine being added tells us anything about Sad Summer, and if Sad Summer doesn't happen, are Mayday Parade more likely to jump on here?
Mayday Parade are already doing their own headlining tour in May that's hitting some of the same venues Sad Summer always hits. I took that to mean they're either not doing Sad Summer or Sad Summer isnt happening entirely. Love The Maine, but they've done the last 3 Sad Summers. I'd hate if they did it again.
