It was around this time in 2018. My mom had been in and out of the hospital dealing a terminal illness and I had temporarily moved from Boston back to Florida to help her out. The 2018 Warped Tour thread was a chaotic mess of shitposting that was a bright spot during a dark time. I remember one time my mom asking why I was laughing and I had to explain to her this thread to which she responded, "that's nice." This thread holds a special place in my heart. I can't wait for more unhinged speculation and shitposting .
What I think is funny, is that main warped tour fb page people still like large quantities are assuming we are gonna get Blink, FOB, Paramore, Green Day, Panic, MCR. Even with last year happening and Kevin saying those bands simply are gonna happen, the logistics don’t work, they can’t pay for them, etc people still sit there and assume we are getting them. I saw someone’s crossword littered with all these names, and Breaking Benjamin, Linkin park etc and people going “looks good” “I think this is the year” it isn’t happening.
The Paramore and FOB ones always make me laugh because I’m pretty sure neither are even a band right now. I’ve seen a bunch of predictions for Sum 41 in Montreal too.
I think bands like Rise Against and The Offspring are the largest acts we’ll get at this point. Not that there’s anything wrong with that
Tickets were only available to people who have a Wells Fargo credit card. And it still sold out almost immediately.
Papa Roach and Third Eye Blind are both ampitheater selling artists. I'd imagine they are both headliners in their respective cities. I wouldn't put Rise Against in that category considering they were Papa Roach's opener on their last tour, but yeah I'd expect The Offspring as well. I would've even mentioned Pierce the Veil but given they are doing stadiums now I think they are out of reach for Warped.
People talk about Blink, MCR, FOB, Paramore and the like as if they all somehow "owe" Warped Tour their success when it's honestly very much the opposite. None of those artists are taking a pay cut to do a singular festival date. Warped Tour just had a good eye for talent. Enema, FUTCT, and 3CFSW were all poised to break at radio and on MTV. Warped was just one part of the marketing plan. Folks just need to simmer their expectations a bit and embrace the undercard. I'm guessing we see 2-3 of the ampitheater acts in the mix rather than one big headliner (similar to last year, TBH, which I would have assumed would reset expectations for everyone LOL).
Completely memory holed that because of how godawful Regency Ballroom is. Didn’t Joe step away because his hand was all fucked up or something?
Totally - that lightning in a bottle 2005 tour with FOB and MCR was them breaking while on the tour. They were booked a year in advance and weren’t the juggernauts they are now or the must-see acts they became during the tour. The headliners last year are where I’d expect this year to be; those smaller arena/amphitheater bands like ADTR, Falling In Reverse, AAR, Good Charlotte, etc and a bunch of club show/HOB bands like State Champs, Pennywise, The Wonder Years, etc on the rest of the lineup with young bands filling in the gaps.
there’s that and there’s been rumors that they’re all not exactly getting along and then the relationship is very much like a business relationship at this point, but doesn’t mean they’re going anywhere
Kevin has literally said in interviews that’s what you are getting, bands like that take smaller guarantee cuts to play a shorter set, and club bands. He has made it clear these shows are gonna be very much what they have always been booking. He has said you won’t have gigantic acts taking massive pay cuts to play.
All of the complaints are so contradicting too. Tickets should be $30! Also FOB, Paramore, blink, MCR need to play!
I did Long Beach last year and thought the lineup was fantastic. I think I saw close to 30 bands across the two days and had a blast going from stage to stage. Aside from the lack of giant headliners like Blink, Panic, and the like, it felt pretty close to WWWY at a lower price point. More importantly, it FELT like Warped.
