Oops, think my reply got posted more than once. Sorry. I wasn't finished . Even if you don't care about diversity of people identity wise. How many times in this thread have people said this years lineup looks like 2015? How many bands that realistically are playing this year this will be there 3+ time on warped? Nothing wrong with emmure or attila or new year's day but there are other bands. For the record I like emmure and new year's day.
Few common sense things I wanna address. Might be somewhat unrelated, but they seem relevant now... Please read this in the perspective that I'm a liberal. This is a festival. About music. Why would it make any fucking sense to "book more LBGT bands". This is as ridiculous as "we need more black people!" Or "we need more white people!" Forced diversity cannot exist. Being accepting and making decisions without looking at race or sexual preference (yes, including LGBT) is how to achieve diversity. You don't have to see every band on the tour. Every single year in warped tours existence has had non-progressive popular bands. This is the only way your precious progressive bands gain any fans (unless you wanted them to fail... which seems to be true based on comments here and on Facebook I see). Oh, also it's how the tour exists in the first place... ticket sales. Boycotting??? That's how you get LESS bands on warped. I don't even know what to say about this mindblowingly stupid idea.
Warped Tour isn't a safe space for those musicians anyways. Lyman doesn't give a shit, when he's booking the bands that he does. I'd rather bands avoid warped and do festivals that actually care and don't book known abusers.
I feel somewhat obliged to chime in at this point before the thread completely falls apart. My personal opinions aside (which many of you know from other threads), the whole point of music festivals, especially Warped, is to bring like-minded people together. It should be a safe space for ANYONE who wants to attend. Be it the 13 year old Atilla loving girl or the 26 year old trans man there to see NOFX. The same should be said about the bands playing the tour. The many times I've been to Warped I've had interactions with people from all different backgrounds, people who spoke different languages, had different political views, etc. That's what is most important to me, that regardless of who you are, you're open minded to what other people are experiencing and accepting of it.
That's a name I haven't heard in a while. That'd be cool for them to do. Unrelated to EDIT, I didn't get a chance to talk to Carnifex on Friday but I didn't hear Scott say anything like "See you soon" to the crowd or anything. Doesn't mean they aren't on.
This may sound weird but I think that 5 Seconds of Summer has a good chance of playing Warped. They haven't announced any upcoming tour dates other than festivals which all of them take place after Warped ends. Plus, they would fit the token pop act bill.
IT does sound weird and I'd also say that won't happen. They sell out amphitheaters easily, they'd be way to big for Warped. If we were to see a pop act it would not be them.
I make one comment about what my boyfriend told me, because Against Me being brought up reminded me of what he said. And now the whole thread is a shit show. Joy. My opinion: I just want to see bands that I like. Be it overt LGBT supporters or people who could not give a rats ass About LGBT community. For fuck's sakes I listen any from NS Black Metal to Solange, obviously I disagree with the former's ideologies but I'm a sucker for an ugly sounding riff. My only comment is that it's a shame that homophobia/transphobia exists so that we have to have these arguemenrs in the first place.
I was just throwing around possibilities. Plus, Luke Hemmings made a surprise appearance last year and that got me thinking about it.
No but it wasn't the stupidest idea. In fact whoever th lead singer is could make a couple guest appearances considering if one ok rock is on, one of their more popular songs off the new album features five seconds of summer so although unlikely not completely out of the realm of possibility
My top three bands I want to be on Warped won't end up being on the lineup. PTV seems to be too big, MoBo went on hiatus and I got laughed at for suggesting 5SOS as a possibility.
It's okay my top bands are unrealistic too being it as all the deathcore bands I'd like to play are too heavy (though if Carnifex plays that'd be cool) and all the rappers I like seem to have other things going on.
I don't think PTV is too big. They're just busy during the beginning of the tour. I still wouldn't count them out for some dates in the 2nd half of the tour.
