The free ticket is not for parents who want to tag along with kids when one of them is an adult. It's for a parent to accompany an under-16 into the festival. This is where it clearly falls into taking advantage of it.
Plus $40 for your own ticket isn't a lot considering you know the event is happening and have all year to put away money for it. Not like Warped gets randomly announced and risks the possibility of quickly selling out if you don't get your ticket right away. Lyman's being generous as it is.
Yeah. I've only bought my ticket at the door once, but I know people who do every year and I've never heard of them having any trouble. It's been a few years since any date sold out as far as I know.
You all are right. I was trying to take advantage of his generousity, since I got to go for free with 2 girls last year (one was 16 and one was 18). I would not try to circumvent the rules. If I were going with a daughter under 16, then I would go for free. If I decide to go this year with my oldest, than I would buy a ticket. (my middle daughter isnt going).
lyman cut stage times this year according to matty mullins. assuming it was only mainstage bands. he said they we're used to playing for 35 minutes from previous years and now they will have to cut a song or two. and i'm sure since monster bands usually only get 30 minutes, I can't see him cutting them down to 25 minutes. thats like 4/5 songs if that for some bands.
also summer slaughter is shaping up to be a gooooood one. i'm genuinely not a fan of their lineups, but it's pretty decent imo. :)
i can't reply to both of you and i definitely thought i posted in the tour speculation thread but keep your eyes peeled. it's on fb.
I don't think this year is disappointing at all, but I do think people who dislike this year will be happy next year. I expect a lot of 2014/2015/2016 repeats next summer. I'd expect a lot of these on the 2018 lineup. State Champs Real Friends Senses Fail Reel Big Fish Waterparks As It Is Every Time I Die Born Of Osiris The Word Alive WSTR Seaway Ice Nine Kills Although it's hard to predict the lineup if they do the Hard Rock stage next summer and bring some old bands out again.
My perfect Warped Tour lineup would be something like: Quicksand The Anniversary The Get Up Kids Saves The Day Alkaline Trio Caspian Me First & The Gimme Gimmes The Ataris Millencolin New Found Glory Underoath Grade Turnover Dead Sara Dryjacket Dreamcatcher Pentimento Diet Cig PWR BTTM Bad Bad Hats Pet Symmetry The Early November
you'd have to smash the establishment and bring it back up with a new name if we ever wanted that to happen at all
I think this year is somewhat disappointing in a way that the bands were distributed to each stage. I think the Hard Rock stage is cool for old school bands, and the Monster stages have great bands, but when it comes to the main stages it just seems a little weak. Like some of those bands are getting a bump up way too early in my opinion (i.e. I Prevail, who's never done Warped, Jule Vera, Futuristic, etc.) It just feels like there's no headliners that really stand out to draw people in except for a few. No way at all do I think this is the worst Warped lineup, just feels a little weird.
Just give me a nice mix of 80s/90s Punk bands and mid 00s Pop Punk and Post-Hardcore bands and you'd have my dream lineup. This year has the first part down better than it has in years. 2013 was really underrated too and one of my favorite Warped lineups. The Early November, The Used, Story Of The Year, Silverstein, Hawthorne Heights, The Chariot, Reel Big Fish, Citizen. That was great stuff.
I think you're missing the point that I don't think the Journey's stages are really intended to be *the* main stages anymore. They're major stages, but they're more just the mainstream stage, rather than the mainstage. The Monster stage(s) are equally the main stage now, and this year definitely have bigger bands on it it looks like. So it's more just two different styles of main stages with different styles of music rather than 'the main stage' and 'the heavy stage'
