The Amateur. It was eh. Well made but kinda lifeless. Rami Malek can't carry a movie.

I thought it was well made and well directed, but I definitely wouldn't call it fun. The most charm that movie had was the two scenes Bernthal was on screen.

When I say dumb fun I just mean an overall dumb movie that I mostly enjoyed watching.

They should have cast Bernthal as a computer nerd guy who kills terrorists across Europe by using his brains to come up with McGuiver contraptions instead of Rami Malek. That would have been more interesting.

And I agree the credit scene with the real people kinda fucked with the vibe

i would feel differently if it wasn’t including and focused around the person who the movie was made for that has no memory of the events of the movie

  14. That… was intense. Can’t imagine anyone watching this and thinking “hell yeah.” I feel deflated.

I was debating seeing this tonight, but it is already gone from my local theater. I’m kind of surprised, I would have assumed this did better since it was marketed as the type of Black Hawk Down-esque “hoo-rah” war film that people usually want to see.

pretty sure it was considered a "hit" but it was an a24 indie vs. a big studio picture like black hawk down. not entirely surprising to me

Seeing them use M113’s instead of Bradley’s took me out of the film a bit, but overall an intense film. First hour dragged a bit, but the last half made up for it

They took Vietnam-era troop carriers and dressed them up to make them look like Bradley’s, which weren’t used until the first Gulf war in 1991

That I have a niche interest in military gear that I assume most here don’t have

Btw, sound design in the film was fantastic; the thump and loudness of the guns firing was spot on. Reminded me of the shootout scene from Heat
