No this show doesn’t need a traditional Big Bad but this is leading into Strange 2 so there is probably something bigger that’s going on here in some way. Best get ready for it if you aren’t already lol
I think there'll be a stinger to set up the next thing but i don't think they're gonna shoehorn in another character in the last 40 minutes.
I would argue she is. Certainly a sympathetic villain, but i mean, she is holding an entire town hostage. And the show hasn't really hidden that it's bad and fucked up.
the show isn’t painting her as a villain though. they are pretty clearly doing that with hahn. it just is much less effective.
The big bad are the fans that keep on hyping Visions grief line as the best the thing in television history. It's a great line and a great delivery and probably some of the best bit of acting in the MCU, but come on.
lol feel that way about this whole show. its good that content consumers are getting exposed to more challenging subject matter though so I'll always welcome it
To be fair, it definitely stands out in a franchise that’s known for its inability to be meaningful beyond things go boom. Not the best defense but it’s what it is.
I'm not worked up, far from it. I just want them to calm down a little so they're not the butt of the joke all over social media.
The scare quotes on “crazy” were there for a reason. Wanda has a rough history in the comics as far as being shown as “crazy” & evil, as part of that whole bad trope with not great implications on women & mental health irl. (A lot of that goes back to the West Coast Avengers comics by John Byrne, a “legend” who also spews transphobic shit online & writes older dude w/ young girls way too often...) Some creators have done a decent job of reclaiming some of that in recent years, but that problematic thread is still there. The cultural behemoth that is Marvel Studios reviving that mess instead of putting a nail in its coffin would suck. And, there are stakes. The stakes are personal, for Wanda. It’s her story. There’s certainly debate that could be had about how much the Marvel-y stuff in here has let that breath, but the answer wouldn’t be to raise the “stakes” by making her “crazy” & the antagonist.
Oh come on guys Wanda has at times absolutely been a villain. Some of her actions in this very show are villainous.
