M.G. Siegler, reviewing the new Metallica “Apple Immersive” concert (er, three songs) that was released for the Vision Pro:

It’s St. Patrick’s Day, 2025. It’s late, the family is asleep. I grab a beer and head out to watch a rock concert. But by “head out” I mean, put on the Vision Pro. Minutes later, I’m in Mexico City – over 5,000 miles away from my home in London – watching James Hetfield walk up to the stage. I’m right behind him. His cigar smoke wafting in my face. The crowd roars as he emerges into the stadium.

It felt very close. Very real.

Honestly, I was blown away by the “Apple Immersive” Metallica concert that was released for the Vision Pro this past weekend. I like Metallica – like any red-blooded teenager in the 1990s, I grew up with ”The Black Album” – but I was more of a grunge kid. But my god, Apple (and the band) nailed this experience. It’s only about 30 minutes – just three songs – but I easily could have watched that for another few hours.

I’ve been ho-hum about the Vision Pro, mostly because for that price I see no real need in my life. This kind of immersive concert experience does sound fun though.

imagine having 3500 to spend on this.

  3. I fantasize about having one for watching movies on planes but the truth is I do not fly very often. Will absolutely buy one secondhand for cheap when it inevitably goes out of support.

Didn’t the nba have something where you could sit courtside for games through a headset? That, or this concert model, or an immersive movie experience (something like avatar) would be the best use case for a casual like me

Pretty sure Apple is putting a ton of dev dollars into figuring out ways to make this thing cheaper. Mass adoption is what they eventually want, and they'll for sure do that once it's at least half the price. Seeing full concerts on this thing sounds really fun.

Yeah, I do believe that when they can make the Vision Pro in the ~2000k range, then it will be a much bigger adoption.

I think $1,500 is the sweet spot (Apple is able to sell millions of phones at that price), but it'll be a bit before Apple can get the price down that far

Definitely, I honestly think dropping the front 'eyes' would be a starter. Of course, that feature makes them stick out straight away as an Apple product.

I work in tech and I can tell you no major eneterprise is really interested in teh vision pro, Mircrosoft was early to the game with the hololense. Apple really has not been participating in opening is API's with this product which again will stifle adaptation. Again this is the business sector, the sector who invests in expensive tech, the apple product just does not have killer use cases or applications that cannot be done by other device for a fraction or the price. I am an anomaly where I actually am given these prodcuts by vendors where I get to use them and test them, its a FANTSTIC product however its application is not here and teh demand will essentially be that of the apple newton.
