Pretty interesting article/interview from Spin from one of the founders of Record Store Day: ‘I Didn't Want to Own It’: How Record Store Day's Co-founder Rejected the Business Model - SPIN
I’m in North Texas area and Joseys and Red Zeppelin are my go to shops. The latter more so as they always have a killer selection of stuff I like.
i haven't really had a record store in my vicinity that's stayed open long enough/that i've lived near long enough to form an attachment to in a good while, so i'll throw out the store i've probably frequented more than any other since i started collecting - Stick It In Your Ear in Springfield, MO. always fun to pay a visit.
Amoeba is obviously the big one here, i don't really live that close to it tho. i visit any time i pass by to go to a concert or something CDTrader is probably the next biggest one, but it's closer to my friend's house (which is fine because we hang out at his place all the time) the one closest to me is probably Atomic Records, I buy a lot of bluray there, the music skews a bit older. there are a lot of smaller shops throughout LA County that offer a better selection of vinyl but for me are harder to get to.
A lot of great record stores in Philly- can’t say I have a favorite. Creep Records Repo Records Latchkey Beautiful World Syndicate (for gently used records) Great Circles (for jazz / ambient / electronic / experimental) Cratediggaz (for hip-hop and r&b) have never been to Long in the Tooth but that’s a big one
I pretty much have Bullmooses, but every time i go to Boston i try and hit Wanna Hear It Records-- they have insane selection for my personal tastes at least.
Definitely The Sound Garden in Baltimore, MD, but also a big shoutout to The Record Exchange in Frederick, MD.
Darkside in Poughkeepsie NY is about an hour from me and worth the trip when I get a chance. My new favorite shop is Den of Wax in Ossining. Run by a really friendly couple with great taste. Their in-store hours are garbage because it’s a side hustle for them but I hope they can expand on employees some day. Den of Wax
RPM Records in Traverse City, Michigan punches way above its weight as a small-town record store. Better than many of the shops I've been to in much bigger cities. I feel extremely lucky to have it, and I give them way too much of my money.
A new pressing of Don Broco's Technology is up for pre-order now: Don Broco - 'Technology' Mustard w/ Black Splatter Vinyl
i like wax trax in denver, especially the og location on 13th. great for buying and selling stuff, good prices, and they'll get stuff for you if they don't have it in stock.
