onto New Bermuda now. actually haven't had the chance to spin the vinyl version of this in full (it was a gift from my partner for me passing my comprehensive exams a couple years ago), and it sounds absolutely fantastic
During the week I listen to 1, maybe 2. I don’t like to spin them while working because it’s silly to fit a listen around calls, and in general is disruptive to stop my workflow to get up and flip it. On the weekends it depends what we’re doing, it can be 2-3 if we’re just hanging around the house. If we ever host a friend hang/holiday, I’ll be spinning them all night long I also listen to my records way more in warmer months. The room my set up is in is much more pleasant to hang out in when there’s sun/windows open haha
I listen to records daily when cooking dinner mostly. But on the topic of represses I'd like to happen: Brazil - Philosophy of Velocity is 20 this year and i would be hyped for that or any of their previous records to get pressed,
I just got the Edifier R1700BTS for christmas. Amazon had them on sale for $159. They are $195 right now but worth every penny. Bluetooth, Active speakers and have a sub out. EQ and volume knobs on the side for easy control and comes with a remote as well. Just ditched my receiver and I love it. Simple clean setup.
Ah thanks for the tip, I'll probably go with these. I've been using the Edifier R1280T for like 8 years and loved them, but recently I was moving furniture and they took a hard tumble and something just seems off with them now.
You all have inspired me. A goal for 2026 is to listen through all my records + clean each side as I listen.
I have a very large pile of records that I bought and haven't yet spun, so I'm making a concious effort to go through those (which means I have to file them away, which means I have to make space, it's a never ending cycle)
I have a bunch of mystery 7" punk/hardcore records I've bought while traveling over the last year or so that I still haven't spun/ripped for my YouTube channel. So one of my goals this year is to finally go through those and archive them all.
I got a bunch of CDs this time, blind buys yet again. I've somehow never been done wrong by Polyvinyl, or Urban Outfitters, when checking out new artists.
also cool but for whatever reason 80s and 90s ones call to me more. 90s are especially cool bc so few records were pressed during that time, and for as much as I have heard that 90s pressings are lackluster over the years every single one I own is fantastic. for a long time I neglected the classics, but the older I get now the more my listening is dominated by them.
i think for me it was due to just a lack of exposure, a drawback of having immigrant parents for whom English is a second language--not that i blame them. we were left to our own devices back then, which wasn't much, so that meant discovering what we were into on our own mostly through whatever happened to be on mtv or the radio. as an adult tho i have no excuse. my interests just never went that far back. i'm more likely to check out a new artist that i can go see live.
