i was considering giving one away, but the first replacement i opened up was pretty warped and wildly off-center, so i ended up opening both. so far, the second replacement copy seems to be fine.
after opening both copies, each with at least one disc with some sort of warp or poor centering (albeit no non-fill like the very first copy i received, the whole reason i needed a replacement to begin with), i ended up Frankensteining a copy using the first disc from the first one i opened, the second disc from the second one i opened, and the original jacket and inner sleeves from the copy i got a couple months ago (since the new jackets felt a bit tighter than the old one). not a good sign for QC when you open three copies of one record and none of them are without flaws, but i'm glad it's over now. don't think i'd give the other one away unless y'all want something that's uncentered and warped to the point of the needle jumping harshly onto the first track on side C.
Speaking of Floating' World's and Anniversaries...would love an Anathallo - Floating World press for the 20th
I have no plans on buying anymore vinyl that isn't second hand or on sale, unless I really love whatever it is. It's gotten way too pricey for my wallet.
I've noticed that $30 or $35 is my threshold for records anymore. Anything $40+ I really have to think about.
Still big on buying physical media but the last few years I've gravitated towards books over vinyl. Especially since you can get secondhand books for cheap.
How often do you all even listen to your vinyl? I find myself listening to mayyybe one record every week or two. My record player is set up in the living room, but in my office I have Spotify and my CD/tape player set up on my desk, and this is where I do the vast majority of my music listening. I listen to tapes and CDs so much more often than vinyl, which makes it even harder for me to justify spending $40 on vinyl these days.
Agreed. I'm down to about 1 to 2 records a week since I don't WFH anymore. Usually on the weekends while cleaning or something. Weeknights I just read or watch tv after work and running,
Thankfully, I only have a handful of records from the back catalogue that I would like to own. And then I’ll probably continue to purchase vinyl copies of new records from a select few bands. So the price of vinyl, while annoying, likely won’t be a barrier for me purchasing what I want. But I’m definitely not going to be impulse buying or anything like that at these prices.
i work from home, so it depends on the complexity of my task or whether or not i have something else on in the background. my turntable is in the living room, but i can transmit the signal over Bluetooth to my Kanto YU4 speakers that currently sit on my desk. i think generally at least once or twice a week.
I'm definitely a "mornings on the weekends" listener. Like to get outside for a bit, come back and make coffee, and put a record on. Was moving alphabetically through the back half of 2025, but got all over the place towards the end. Asking the hard questions haha, the "how much you invest vs. how much are you invested" of it all.
and these two copies are part of a repressing after all of the first copies of this variant sold out. genuinely surprised that them being rushed out the door didn't result in more non-fill.
It's getting to a point where all of the music from my formative years has now been acquired. 2011 is when I started collecting vinyl, so all of the anniversary pressings before that are getting accomplished. Meaning all of my record buying would be for new releases. Hopefully that made sense because it was really hard to put into words. EDIT: My records are in the basement so it's a rarity that I get to go down there and play video games while listening. My stack of new purchases in nearly half a cube full. I really need to start listening again.
I probably typically listen to somewhere between 10-20 records a week (counting playing things more than once, which I basically always do for new purchases before moving them to the shelf).
All this about not buying $40+ records but I didn't think twice about dropping $200 on the anniversary box set of A Fever You Can't Sweat Out. But that album will always be special to me so it was worth it.
I pretty much only stream random songs, but nearly all full album listens that I do anymore are on vinyl. I just get way more out of albums that way. obviously some exceptions for highly anticipated new releases, or stuff that’s hard to come by or just isn’t on vinyl or whatever, but for the most part if I have the album on vinyl I will just play my copy, and even if I don’t have it sometimes I will hold off on listening until I can pick it up. that said, I am still only spinning a couple records a week on average.
I try to get 3-6 records a week. I do most of my full album listening via vinyl. I also have listening parties at my house every 1-2 months for friends
