Yes. Yes it will. Haha I kid...maybe.

I've been collecting since 2006. Only picking up my "all time favorite albums". It started to ramp up in 2013 a bit, then the pandemic hit and it was over... It's post pandemic and its still a bit... problematic.

My wife has suggested that instead of buying new lps, to just dust off old ones. It's definitely helped curb my spending (the past week hah).

Don't get into box sets though... As seen below.

I'm curious to hear how many records everyone has. I'm closing in on four figures myself, and storage is getting to be an issue.

Gonna Ride My Palomino, Ride 'im to the Fair.

    I'm afraid to count.
I don't nearly have half the amount of albums on vinyl as everyone else... but my CD's are in the 4 digits. And this is AFTER I sold a bunch of stuff.... which of course I instantly regret. That's a whole other thread.

Probably my most valuable ones. North, The Artist In The Ambulance, The Alchemy Index, Ocean Avenue, and I can’t think of what else is up there.

I'm grabbing my first pressings of my They Might Be Giants "s/t" and "Lincoln," Creeper Lagoon "take back the Universe and Give me Yesterday," Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks... ugh... probably "Face the Truth" and "Wig out at Jagbags" 'cause my guys also like those albums... then there'd be lots of weeping.

Edit: I forgot Raffi's Christmas album... one of the Jicks albums'll have to go via coin toss.

I’m closing in on 150 and have no doubt that I will reach 300 by end of year.

I just recently increased my renters insurance policy.

House on fire - I’d grab blink s/t, Jimmy Futures, SoCo North, Thrice Vheissu and Turnstile Glow On (it’s a first pressing and even though they are relatively new, I believe they are a once in a generation talent and this album was / is a game changer).

  21. I’d probably let my records burn, honestly. My wallet would be so relieved. The only one I’d save is my 20 Stories Falling album cuz that was my band so I’m a little more emotionally attached to that.

oh wow, you guys have really impressing collections and it is a good idea to have put some insurance on it for sure! I'm closing in on 150 as well, but after I got to 100 I really slowed down. When I started it was funny how I assumed I'd probably buy 3 of my favorite records a year, which quickly shifted to limiting myself to buy 3 records a month. Then obviously I always HAD TO reach that limit, and sometimes found ways to go past it (like for example albums bought at gigs don't count hahah)

I did the math and 1142 records over 7.5 years of collecting equals 3 records a week for 7.5 years. Damn

Wow, can't imagine that, I had trouble finding time to thoroughly enjoy the records I used to buy monthly - I definitely slowed down when I piled up to 10 new albums I couldn't find time to listen to even once yet - but that's because I really take my time and focus completely when I sit down with vinyl. I had a resolution then I'd have to listen to all of those till I allowed myself to buy anhything else again (can't remember if I kept it 100%)

btw. I live on the ground floor, so if my flat's on fire over here I'd probably lift my whole cubes somehow and throw them through the window hahah. Hard to choose 5, really, especially as I don't have anything of real high value, pretty sure at least. My deluxe version of On Letting Go comes to mind as it was one of the best birthday presents I've got

this is a good reminder that i need to invest in actual renter's insurance. our apartment has a limited protection plan for structural damage, but it would probably be better to sign up for something that actually covers our possessions.
