i’ve only actually gotten one box from Bespoke, and it’s because I forgot to cancel it. however, it was also charged to a canceled card, but the box still showed up and none of my accounts have been charged, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
(I really enjoyed the box, though, and use several items daily)

Motion City Soundtrack - My Dinosaur Life [Repress] (April 5)

  5. I got a copy of that Moby record when I had a vinylmeplease sub and I’ve never listened to it haha. I’m not sure I’ve actually ever heard the album at all outside of that big single tbh

What box was it? I find I got a few good cooking boxes from them (one with a chemex, one with a pizza stone, and one with a wok). I just find that $50 is a lot to spend on a box I am not completely sold on, especially if those funds are allocated to vinyl.

one of the EDC ones, included a knife, moneyclip, and pen/stylus (using that right now!). i’m always tempted by the coffee stuff, but I already have so much, haha.

So I've been using a crosley record player with crumby built in speaker, and I'm now ready to upgrade. Does anyone have recommendations for turntables/speakers? Affordability is key, so I'm not really looking to get something like a debut carbon.

    U-Turn Audio

I've had my eye on a u-turn for awhile; they have varying price points and you have some flexibility to customize.

There’s at least 6-7 songs on that record that most music fans would recognize. One of those underrated gems.

Damn, these things are gorgeous. I'd love to splurge the extra $90 for the walnut finish.

Do you have the basic model or did you customize? I'm curious to know if I should get the acrylic platter right away or just wait to upgrade down the road. I'm a noob to all of this!

I'm also quite new to "modern" turntables - I'm by no means an expert. My last working turntable was vintage. I chose the Orbit Custom with the built-in preamp, cue lever, basic platter, and the "standard" stylus (CN5625AL). I like that I can choose to upgrade later on if I'd like to. I also went with the cork mat for static issues (it seems to have helped so far) and powered speakers off Amazon. (From what I had read, the acrylic platter seemed more like a "want" than a "need." I like the look of the basic platter with the green finish of the turntable better anyway.)

I'm so thrilled at how easy it is to set up and how awesome their customer service is! (I emailed them a bunch of times with questions before my purchase, and later on I ordered a back-up belt - it was so simple!)

Ah that's awesome. I haven't found a bad review for this turntable. I think I'm just gonna get the cue lever and built in preamp for now, and upgrade my platter and stylus down the road when I become a little more knowledgeable. Now I just need to decide if I stick with black or get that solid walnut!

I was very close to getting the walnut finish when I got my U-Turn 2 years ago. I ultimately landed on white because I wanted my color vinyl to "pop" from the contrast.

That's funny I was just thinking about how much better the records would look with a white base. I think you just helped me make up my mind.

I also started out with a Crosley (girlfriend got it for me for Hanukkah 2015). The best favor you can do for yourself (and the condition of your records) is to upgrade. In case you are curious, my custom ended up being:

    Orbit Custom - White × 1
Built-in preamp, Cue lever, Acrylic platter, Ortofon OM 5E

The only warning I will give on the U-Turn (and I have said so in this thread before) is that the belt is a pain to put back on if it falls off when you're transitioning from 33 to 45 and back. It's a minor hassle, but really the only negative I've had.

Nice thanks for the tip! I rarely listen to 45s so the belt shouldn't be too much of an issue. My only concern is that I'll accidentally pull it off every time I change records.

I think my custom is gonna be very similar to yours, except I'm not gonna go for the acrylic platter just yet. I was gonna order Audioengine P4 speakers but I've been seeing mixed things about them. Since I'm new to all of this and don't wanna make a large uneducated purchase, I may just stick with the Edifer speakers I see a lot of people use.
