Now THAT makes sense. My first car had a tape deck, so I bought a bunch on clearance from FYE back in high school, that now are collecting dust somewhere

 

It's also worth pointing out that I also owned the vinyl for every album I owned on cassette (aside from Brand New's Leaked Demos).

 

I also feel like people who collect tapes of bands often collect all merch of said bands, no matter the format.

 

I bought Pinegrove's Elsewhere on tape at their show since I already had Cardinal and Everything So Far on vinyl. I have no tape player so I haven't even opened it. I don't plan on collecting them, I haven't found a cheap tape player too

 

I own one Man Overboard cassette and I think I only got it because it was in a merch bundle I wanted at the time. I have no way to play it though. My current set-up does have an 8 track player though if those ever make a comeback.

 

I got the Defeater discography on tape because B9 found some more and I couldn't resist not having it.

 

I have Get Schwifty on tape because that gimmick was too good to pass up.

 

Only tapes I have are Brand New's demos and Radiohead's OKNOTOK tape

 

I don't think they are about being hip, tapes are just another way to support the artist. my girlfriend doesn't collect records and doesn't always need a t shirt when we go to a show but she wants to support. most smaller bands have tapes because they are easy/cheap to produce. she throws them 5 bucks and has something physical to take home and a digital download.

 

I just thought i would throw out a top tip for trying to get a vinyl that will sell out quickly. (apologies if you are already one step ahead of me!). I will use the Paramore After Laughter Teal /1000. As my example:

Downloaded firefox (not used in ages, since moving to chrome), but it has a great app check4change. I then highlighted on the store.paramore.net/vinyl (made link up), on the number of products on sale. And set to check every 30 seconds, if it changes it gave me a noise alert. I just set this up on a minimised tab in work, and when it went off i ordered the vinyl.

Although, how on a 8 hour day, does my boss wants a meeting just as i get the alert!

 

Santi and DRUGS are both now up and seeming going fast already.

 

I did think about DRUGS. Really did. But this seems to be one of those where I am okay with passing. But your post the other day made me think about it more than I had expected.

Pretty much shutting the door on my two local shops. They never have anything and are overpriced.

What's the best way to buy online? Straight from the artists webstore?

 

My local shop is kinda like that too. They have some good stuff just not all the new releases I'd hope for and they up the price a fair amount all the time.

Depends on what you're looking for of course. I've gotten great deals on stuff from Discogs and sellers usually communicate fairly well on there, and they ship fairly cheap domestic. Just gotta look around little sometimes on there to find good stuff. Bullmoose and Newbury comics are pretty great. Bullmoose has a fairly big selection. And like you said, direct from the artist/their label is great too depending on what they use for a shop. Merchnow seems to fuck you with shipping sometimes from my experience. But other shops like that aren't as bad. SRC is also one I'd advice to stay away from.

 

I purchase almost all my vinyl through Amazon Prime. It's fast (same day as release for new stuff) and usually the cheapest price. If I'm out of town I'll hit up shops and occasionally pick up used stuff in discogs. Occasionally I'll order from the artist direct, but usually only if it's something I can't get elsewhere since shipping often costs almost as much as the record.
