My frustration is coming from a place of love, trust me!

I think the thing I get stuck on is that a lot of the artists I've followed for years (Butch Walker, Matt Nathanson, Andrew McMahon, etc.) are people who have really struggled to get their back catalogs on vinyl because they don't know the rights to a bunch of their albums. So to see a band that owns just about everything but just...won't keep their albums in print, that trips me up a little. Especially a band like The Maine where their releases consistently sell out very quickly and then go for wild amounts of money on eBay and Discogs. It's like, guys, I don't want to pay some reseller money for your album, I want to pay you!

 

Andrew has said that he has his team consistently reach out to whoever owns the Jack’s stuff and they always tell them they’ll allow a pressing if Andrew pays retail price for it. So nothing happens. He wants to do a box set with the 3 albums and all the b-sides. But probably won’t happen.

100% agree. There should be no excuse not to be able to get a standard black vinyl of your favourite records. Unfortunately money is more important. Got to have the demand for those fancy variants.

 

Got the half and half splatter, which I think was my favorite out of the bunch.

 

Pink it is. I didn't see pressing numbers anywhere, but I like pink records.

It's a huge bummer. I own the 10-year EIT, and I have copies of both Glass Passenger and People & Things, but I'd love to see the latter two get the full treatment with all the b-sides. Especially Passenger.

Yea, I own copies of the standard version of each. A box set from Andrew would be dope.

 

Got the half & half! My work meeting ran 10 minutes over so I had to covertly place the order with my phone hidden under my desk. Really wish they still had some of Dyed in stock so I could've placed a bigger order and justified that ridiculous shipping cost.

 

Got the pink one cause why not.

picked up the S/T too before that disappears and doesn't get repressed for 10 years

Said some version of this in a different thread the other day, but I like how The Maine have made their records a bit scarce and think more artists should limit their vinyl pressings (anniversaries are understandable and generally expected at some point). I think part of the fun in collecting anything is having to grind a little bit. It’s a hobby!

edit: and when I say “a bit scarce” it should be noted that there have been three separate pressings of AC in its 10 year run prior to the one that released today

 

I don't mind the limited aspect as long as I get a copy. I'm never selling these records.

 

I’ve gone back and forth over the years whether I find enjoyment out of the hobby and I always wind up getting sucked back in after dumping a few records. Feels like I just need to accept that I enjoy this and it’s okay to spend extra money on it. Downside is i’ve sold lots of records I wish I could have back.

 

I disagree entirely. Make a rare variant, sure. If people wanna hunt that color by all means, but artificial scarcity that only benefits the resellers that have shit going for 300+ is super bad. A new fan or collector shouldn’t need to shell out a hundred bucks for the bands album released in 2019.

 

This is how I feel... I got into vinyls fairly recently and lucked out getting YAO and XOXO colored variants for fair prices on discogs.. but looking at LLL or even Pioneer cause I missed that re-release, its crazy I can't just get a standard black version to add to the collection

 

The amount of awesome band merch I've seen with a stupid fucking arm print makes my blood boil.
