The “Ten Bands One Cause” ‘23 vinyl announcement came out today. Includes a different variant of The Gaslight Anthem’s new LP, plus an additional announcement coming on 10/13: https://recordstoreday.com/10bands1cause#:~:text=This year's set includes limited,on 10/13/23.

 

I'm sure this has been asked many times before and I'm sorry about that, but anyone have any experience selling records? Looking to pare down my collection a bit by putting stuff up on discogs but don't know what people expect in terms of shipping quality.

 

1) Use vinyl shipping mailers
2) ship with the record in the sleeve outside the gatefold so the seam doesn’t split in transit
3) take more pictures than necessary highlighting any dings/dents/splits in the sleeve or scratches on the vinyl
4) be prepared for absolute wack jobs to buy your shit

ebay and discogs are the best avenue

Do Forty Hour Train Back to Penn next! (this is still a great album in itself though)

 

I got really excited for a second when I thought it was Forty Hour. Still pretty cool.

 

@StormAndTheSun these are all great! I will add to be sure to ship with media mail from usps. If you buy records online you will be familiar with it. I mention it though because It will be by far most cost effective method, and at my post office it’s not really advertised, so be sure to ask for it!

 

I know! Haha but with this, I will only need 40 Hour for them.

Well, I’m not sure if they put that first album out, but I never listen to it, so I don’t think I’d bother with it.

 

They did, surprisingly, during 2015.

 

I thought I vaguely recalled that. I’m good on that one.

Has anyone sold in bulk to like a record store or something? I'm guessing you might not earn as much but you'd save yourself the trouble of shipping them all individually

 

Anytime i’ve done this i’ve gotten hosed.

 

I’ve done it before, if like 6-7 records counts as bulk haha. Selling anything to a retail store is always gonna be a terrible deal for the seller. But honestly I hate dealing with people too much to care. People are idiots

 

Sold maybe 8 records to my favorite record store a few months ago and was surprised that they took them all but then the employee I was dealing with said "thanks for bringing us good stuff" and I don't care if he was lying or says that to everyone because I swear that's a high I will be chasing for the rest of my life.

I genuinely don’t know how smaller record stores stay in business when you’re selling overpriced vinyl and used dvds and cds

It's been a minute. Just been going through some major life things as of late.

One of my last pick ups that I can finally spin. The gatekeeped "Anodyne" variant of Baroness "Stone". Definitely one of the cooler variants I've picked up in awhile!

 

They did not miss with the Stone variants I’ve seen thus far.

 

Totally sold bulk to a record store.
Only a few times and the second time they gave me over $600. I was sitting on that Adult Swim Metalocalypse album and it was worth around $320 alone.
They didn't skimp. Given that I was in the market to unload.

Mind you, I have no idea what the turn-around was on it.
