  1. I was worried subbing to this thread would ruin my wallet but I haven't bought any records recently

Wait I lied I bought Rebecca Black's album

Thinking of buying Tessa Violet's new one as well; maybe if I go see her again I can just get it there

My Insignia turnable arrived (it's a bit scruffed but it was only $80 including shipping and it seems to play all right) so I'll be giving my friend my Crosley suitcase. He's already purchased a vinyl of GotG2. I'm the bad influence in my friend group for once

The Insignia doesn't have built in speakers but I can still hear it faintly, it's not as prominent/annoying as my Crosley was even on lowest volume, but I'm just wondering if it had something to do with the built in preamp or something, has anyone else experienced this?

What kind of speakers do you have it hooked up to?

  3. That's irrelevant, the sound is coming from the turntable itself even when nothing's plugged in

  4. bobsheiskawy

is it the same for you? Prestigious

Are you saying it's just the sound from the needle on the record?

What kind of sound are you referring to then?

  6. I don't think so?
    It's playing the music

So even without amplification, the record spinning with the needle on it is what plays the music, so you'll be able to hear it at least a little. After that it's just a matter of boosting that signal to be able to hear it louder and clearer.

  9. I remember being soooo confused the first time I experienced that, having no idea that’s how it worked

Sorry if you already know this, but if you've upgraded from your Crosley you'll need a couple things. Turntable > Preamp (which it sounds like you already have) > Amp > Passive Speakers or Turntable > Preamp > Powered Speakers.

Double that for the first pressing and then send 1500 copies out whenever stock starts to dwindle

Right, it doesn't hurt to gauge interest. Especially since it's the 20th anniversary and us old heads with disposable income would jump at the chance at some nostalgia.

I'm your opposite. I rarely order albums through the mail - entirely due to shipping (occasionally through amazon: Brainiac's Hissing Prigs in Static Couture for $19.99? Yes please,) so most all my purchases are from a record store... some of the prices for used albums blow my eyes out the back of my skull... I've had to buy several replacement skulls.

Catching up on a little more than a month’s worth of new additions to the family…bit of a spree haha. Probably not buying much for awhile now as I’m basically out of shelf space and my wantlist is considerably thinned after recent represses and pulling the trigger on some classics I just hadn’t gotten around to grabbing.
