question for anyone who has used one of the QR codes for the Furnace fest pressings online after it happened... does anyone know when they are due to ship? (was in such a hurry to checkout I didn't look for any of that information.)

Now that I’ve completed my renovation works I’m finally getting round to (re)organising my collection of approx 1800. Just curious how people organise on here.

Do you? And if so what convention do you follow. My usual is numbers followed by alphabetical (by surname), compilations at the end. I’m now considering alphabetising by first name instead. Interested to know what others do on here!

pretty much same as you but I use the first name alphabetically not the surname.

Alphabetical by first name and then chronologically but with re-records/rereleases placed by their original release.

    Untitled, Greatest Hits, Neighborhoods.

    Red, 1989, 1989 Taylor’s Version, Reputation

I agree with Tyler on this. That's my exact organization system

I thought I was the only freak who alphabetized by first name. We exist!

iTunes naming conventions more or less shape how i sort metadata in my digital collection, down to capitalization, genre-assignment, etc.

I still need a minute to orient myself to last name, first name sorting whenever I go to the record store. Just not how my brain works for music.

yeah doesn’t help when they put stuff like Father John Misty under “M” and Lana Del Rey under “D” lol

it's weird because i get why they do it in the same way that a bookstore would sort authors by last name within their respective genres, but on the other hand so much of the resurgence in vinyl has been due to newer age cohorts who are probably more familiar with a first name, last name sorting as seen on their music streaming service of choice. but also when i go into a record store it's like a switch automatically flips in my brain telling me "no, Michael, it's last name then first". just funny how that happens.

Completely agree - I’ve always done surname first because of record stores but I prefer the first name, as with iTunes etc. Digital age. That’s what I’ve gone with this time.

Moving house and reorganising the collection is a task but it will all be worth it. Making custom backspacers for them as I go as well.

On a related note I always ignore THE but A Tribe Called Quest and A Day To Remember will always be A. One of the reasons NFG dropped the A!

It’s like they don’t want you to find those artists!

The thing about bookstores is it makes sense because almost every book can be sorted by someone’s last name. With music, you have a mix of artists going by their full name, artists going by just a first name, bands, stage names, etc. I actually think it makes more sense to sort by the first letter every time (barring, like, band names that start with “The”) so you don’t have that inconsistency.

  19. I have it alphabetized by first name, but I have artists split by gender and also Paramore falls under Hayley Williams, Bachelor falls under Jay Som, Plains falls under Waxahatchee

I omit any articles before band/group names, and go by artist first name. Numbers last.

Also a first-name organizer. Ariana Grande next to Armor For Sleep may sound wrong but it feels right.

Meant to ask you awhile ago - how do you choose what records (wall picks) to listen to each week?

I sort all my albums by the middle name of the bassist. If there's no bassist, then the middle name of the drummer. If there's no drummer, then the mother's maiden name of the lead singer.

  25. Usually either something that feels like the “mood” the week or season. Lots of AFI/Alk3 this month. Or a color aesthetic. Or just what I’m actually listening to a bunch at the moment and want it around to make me feel happy. Kinda just a vibe check and feel.

speaking of I need to go swap those
