    Regular

The only RSD release i bought was Ben Folds Live With WASO. But I also grabbed some others I'd been meaning to buy for a while:

    JEW-Bleed American
    The Menzingers-After The Party
    The xx-I See You

I felt bad for these two people at the RSD event I was at. They brought their baby in and waited in line for 45 min and the store had none of the records they were looking for.

I get the whole idea of it, but you should be able to preorder to an extent.

This was kind of my thing with 99% of the list this year. A few things that would be cool to own, but not a lot I would listen to regularly. Maybe I'm just a different kind of record collector than most people.

You should at least be able to know if your store is going to have the record you want. But the entire thing seems so disorganized that I doubt that will ever happen. Record stores get RSD releases in like three days before the event and then have to do a mad dash to price everything.

One of the stores here did a video of all the releases they got in and posted it to FB. Apparently it's allowed in terms of the RSD rules.

I have never opened any of the RSD albums I've bought since there's almost always another pressing later.

So stoked! After incessantly refreshing the page, finally secured space jam on bull moose.

I'm just never impressed with RSD stuff. I really only buy full LPs of records that I already love. I just can bring myself to buy 7" or pay $20-$30 for an LP I haven't fallen in love with. Just really particular about what I choose to buy to put on my shelf. I kind wish there were more special edition reissues of some classic LPs

Anyway last purchase on Thursday was....

    Grizzly Bear- Shields
    Radiohead- Kid A
Wolf Parade- Apologies to the Queen Mary (3LP)

  7. Yesss, finally got it to process.

RSD is a mixed bag for me, but I can usually find at least one thing I'm into. Two years ago there were those awesome Run For Cover 7" records, last year was Nothing and The Guest OST, and this year I'm really happy about The Dark Crystal OST.
I really dislike stores that do free for alls. I actually decided to try out a new store this year and it was insanely organized (they handed out this great checklist). Will go to them in the future for sure.

This is how I feel about pretty much any 7". They're cool to have, but how often am I really going to bother going through the effort to listen to one song or two songs? Not often.

Yep, I'm right there with you. I have one the Bruce 7-inches from RSD 2011 or something. I think I've played it twice.

Do you guys use plastic sleeves for any/all of your records? I don't know if I feel like it's worth the annoyance

There's nothing in my collection I haven't played. I don't have a ton of records, but I never buy something if I don't intend to listen to it.

Outer sleeves? Yeah I do for sure. I don't really find it that annoying.

I play the majority of my records. The only ones I haven't or don't really play are the hand-me-downs from my mom. Most of those aren't in super great shape anyway. I don't have outer sleeves on them currently, but will probably take the time to do that at some point.

I didn't used to because I found the sleeves annoying, but after my collection was completely soaked following a fire in my building, the ones that came out looking the best were the ones in the sleeves, so if you have them I'd recommend leaving them on.

This is so sad :( I know the feeling. When my dog was a puppy, I left her out while I was gone for maybe 45 minutes and came home to a good chunk of records and books torn up and half eaten on the ground. My first pressing of tell all your friends was my saddest casualty that day.

  21. I found Atreyu's greatest hit for 10 bucks. I passed on it and I really wanted it.

My daughter loves it when I play certain records, but other than that I really don't have a good scenario for playing them. I'll open about 90% of them and put them in a sleeve. But I would say that I've only played about half of my collection.

    Someday I’ll find me Prestigious

I struggle to be able to play mine, as my 9 month old and 2.5 year old are not too keen on letting it happen. The toddler enjoys it, but only for a couple of songs, which for setting up a record to play is a bit tedious if I know I'm only going to get 5 to 10 minutes of fun out of the experience.

I play every record at least once through, somehow, before sitting it on the shelf with the dream of being able to really enjoy them one day.

are we still lucky to be here? Prestigious

Say what you will about Atreyu, but The Crimson will always and forever be an awesome album to me because it was a gateway release into a lot of other extreme forms of music for me. I will always be grateful for that release before they turned into a butt rock band after A Death Grip on Yesterday.
