i remember a few years ago i went and got my first COVID vaccine a town 45 minutes over and stopped in their FYE to find a really good selection of CDs and records for not too terrible prices. last Christmas, i went to a mall in NJ and stopped in their FYE only to find it practically devoid of music in favor of cheap collectables. sad times.

The last FYE I went to had some Star Wars black series figures, but they had them at double the normal retail price. Gross.

The barren landscape that is my local mall here, I popped in FYE about a year ago and FYE was literally overpriced tshirts and Funko Pops. Those Funkos were literally everywhere, from entire walls, to the ceiling, dedicated displays, everywhere!

  8. I haven't noticed my FYE being significantly overpriced, but I've only ever gone there within the last four years. They usually have a pretty good selection of cds and dvds on sale, and a few records too if I'm lucky.

This image may make me turn to dust, but I had no idea VHS tapes used to cost this much…

surprisingly, i do remember hearing that this was the case, and that the release of Top Gun kind of changed the pricing structure for the better?

We reach for the longest shadow

Sam goody was the flavor in my mall

  16. Sam Goody, Tower, and Virgin were all culprits in that dept. I feel like I remember seeing NFG’s self titled for like $20 at Virgin once. I was pretty exclusive to Zia, Best Buy, and Target

i worked at best buy twice and we never had cds for that much, they were always 9.99 or less release week and then only went up a couple bucks afterwards.

Echo the FYE thing. Stopped by a mall in Illinois and went into the FYE. Was the same thing: Candy, Pops and shirts. Basically just became Five Below except more expensive.

Cool. I also worked there. And I shopped there for years and years. There were times they cost more. Not all the time. But it happened.

I went into a local used record store specifically to see if I could find it. It was sitting front and center and only $8

I don’t remember ever buying a CD over $12 from there. I just remember when they actually sold CDs. No más!

I feel like in the early 2000s I’d walk into Best Buy every Tuesday and new release cds were 5.99-9.99, and dvds were like 9.99. I’d drop like $40 and get a movie or two and 2-3 cds.
