Most likely, you’re fucked.

Any assets they have will be used to pay towards the debt they apparently owe. It’s doubtful there will be enough to cover it, otherwise they probably wouldn’t be doing this. There is little chance any of that goes towards customer refunds.

I got lucky with the SCP bankruptcy because the band I had preordered vinyl from decided to honor the orders out of their own pockets. SCP never gave them the money for the preorders (along with all their merch money for the second half of last year), so they got fucked. But they chose to do right by the fans.

Here, there’s no bands to do anything like that. Bandbox was its own thing.

 

I know so many people who ordered records from them when they had that massive New Years Sale at the end of 2023, and I feel like the email they sent out on Feb. 23rd about “orders going out in 2 weeks” was a way for them to stall and get past the 60 day period where you can dispute a charge for all the unfulfilled orders from that sale.

edit- I also want to add that I’m not the brightest so my theory is possibly completely incorrect.

 

Class action lawsuit?

 

I don’t currently have anything outstanding with Bandbox, but I did pick up the Free Range record from them last year and was very pleased with the packaging/pressing. Big bummer to see a bunch of people get totally screwed by what seemed to be a reliable merchant

 

All of their assets are going to be used in this process. There won’t be anything to sue for even if it made sense to do so.

 

They were a great company while they lasted. Quality pressings. Great discounts. It was too good to be true in this day and age of vinyl.

I just want my money damnit! I guess we'll see if anything happens down the line (if anything).

 

I mean, it is possible something is done for customers. It’s just very unlikely, IMO (which is very surface level legal understanding).

 

Glad I didn't partake of that New Year's sale.

 

Unfortunately, in a bankruptcy situation, the customers are almost never made whole. I just interviewed a bride and groom in my hometown who are out $10,000 and a wedding venue for this summer because the venue declared bankruptcy after they'd already paid in full.

 

File a claim on your charge for the order if you can with your credit card company/bank

 

I was hoping to order their YLT exclusive but glad I held off - hope that gets pressed else where

 

Echoing what Joe said, call the number on the back of your card and file a claim for the charge. The company may not pay you back but if you didn’t receive your merch then the bank will probably credit you

 

All I ever got was the Motion City Soundtrack when they offered it 50% off, it was a sweet deal. Damn shame what's happened and I feel for everyone that had pending orders. Shit sucks.

One last thought on Bandbox - this situation is why I despise paying before an item ships. Their customer service totally led me on through multiple emails telling me there was a slight delay and they were waiting to hear back from the vinyl manufacturer. Totally fucked up. Bad businesses deserve what they get.

 

Glad I didn't grab that American Football album after all. Sorry everyone else has to deal with this. Sounds like they knew what was happening and led people on anyway.

 

yep, in hindsight it was totally sketch and clear what they were doing.

 

Mightier Than Sword still owes me a TOYPAJ from like 10 years ago, holding them to it.
