I mean, if we are talking individually and personally? This is my favorite brand of Vince:

haven't had a chance to spin this yet but personally? I miss the level of emotion he used to put in. like there were times the cold gangster persona would drop out and you'd get these absolutely insane moments of pure honesty combined with virtuosity, like "Nate", "Jump off the Roof", "Summertime" and "Party People" for example. I miss that Vince

This would have totally slipped into my going out playlists if I was….still doing that a lot lol

Doesn’t it say something that neither of those songs are by him though? Maybe you just don’t like his music.

I mean, I love Summertime 06 and FM and Prima Donna and countless other songs... doesn't mean my favorite songs of his are required to be on his solo album

idk I feel like this record has a ton of emotion on it through the lyrics it just seems very different because the tone is very different

Fair enough. Those songs do bang hard but I enjoy getting a different side of Vince with each record, not knowing exactly what to expect

This record definitely has emotion in it. I’d listen to it before passing judgment

that wasn't pre-judgement on the album lol, you asked about "Vince Staples in general" so I was replying to that

I'm spinning this now, it's a nice listen. "Sundown Town" is super good

"Sundown Town", "Take Me Home" and "MHM" are that good shit. can't see myself revisiting the rest all that much, but I def prefer this over anything since BFT

I like the album but it all kind of blends together for me, which is not usually an issue I have with his projects. Like I said, I probably have to listen more, but I listened twice today and it's still not really clicking that hard for me

I will be okay. everything Supporter

That’s how I feel. It’s not bad but until the last couple songs I have trouble picking out where one ends and the next starts. His other stuff keeps the same vibes throughout but still feels more varied than this to me

The beat to The Shining is killer. A standout for me

I think I would’ve liked a few more songs and another guest spot or 2. It just feels short to me, especially if you take out the skits there’s not even 20 minutes of music. I like the production though.

This is one minute longer than Prima Donna, but this is way more cohesive and focused than that. Liking it more and more. Wish it was slightly more “beefy”, but the actual content is very good

I enjoyed this but I’m growing tired of the short album trend in hip hop. Ready for that to go away.

??? Isn't the trend having needlessly long albums/deluxe editions to pad out streaming numbers? That's the trend I've been tired of, give me this world where shorter albums are a trend!

Yeah I can only think of like 3 recent examples of short albums- Earl, Tierra, and Vince. Any others yall think of please point me in that direction

10-13 tracks is perfect. Just long enough for a drive across town

I personally enjoy it more than the 18-24 song albums that are half filler.

    hey you lil piss baby

That great Maassai record from this year is 9 tracks/18 minutes, but I’m sure that’s not what’s being alluded to. I guess Backxwash is kind of short at 30 minutes.

Short songs is something of a trend, but in the mainstream most big projects are still running like an hour+ with another 20 minutes of bonus tracks a week later (obviously there are exceptions though). Even records by artists who don’t seem to be padding their albums for streams (MIKE, Mach-Hommy, Armand Hammer, etc) are still clocking in at like 40+ minutes.
