Wtf is going on in this thread

People on this site are a little weird about Vince for some reason.

 

I don’t know how a short runtime is meant to be an indicator of the project’s quality lol. I’m sure the false starts over the past few years have made people more wary but idk.

With the exception of those Vince Staples Show tracks, every project since Hell Can Wait has ranged from very good to near masterpiece. He’s always had such a strong vision for his projects.

Three years is not that long between projects, but it’s extremely long for Vince. I’m so hyped that we’re getting a new album in a week.

 

I really want to know why he of all artists generates so much apprehension.

 

Also listened to BFT last night, and it’s still a perfect record

 

I think Vince is honestly one of the most consistent and versatile artists in any genre rn. If there’s anyone who can put out a 20 minute album and make every minute count it’s him

 

sorry y'all I just haven't liked any of the stuff he's done since BFT! don't mean to bring down the thread but it's an opinion I have. would sincerely love to have my mind blown by the new one, here's hoping

 

FM! is so good though.

 

Like I feel like I missed something.

he’s put out nothing but great work, all he has is goodwill. So strange to see so much doubt in this thread.

 

I have no doubt this will be great, I have loved every project so far. Just wish it were a little longer.

FM is 22 minutes though and I still play that at least once a month

well that's what you're missing, not everyone has been into his post BFT stuff. i haven't liked any of it. FM was boring to me, tried to revisit it a few times and it's just not the vince i like. i mean obviously i'm happy he's making the music he wants to make, it's totally fine, but i don't feel like it's that hard to understand why some people wouldn't be excited for his new stuff based on his recent output. not directing this all at you, was just the one i quoted haha.

 

BFT is still my high point for him but he hasn't put out a bad project yet, excited for this and yea the shorter run time doesn't bother me especially considering there's another project on the way. Also Pusha T's Daytona is 21 minutes and it's one of my favorite albums of the past 20 years lol

Vince doesn’t get any more apprehension than any other artist on here. Let’s not get crazy that people have dissenting opinions on some of his work. I love everything up to and including BFT. His features on other peoples’ stuff are reliably great. He’s a master of Twitter.

But I thought FM was not my thing and the singles have been pretty dull. I didn’t mean to say album length = quality. I guess I just want more Vince. Total selfishness on me as a fan. Nothing deeper than that. Will always have faith in him, even if this doesn’t hit for me.

 

yeah the loosie singles in the last few years are the main cause of my apprehension here. I like parts of FM, but those singles are... not good

 

Yea I mean I get that some of the loosies from 2018-19 aren’t his best stuff. “Law of Averages” is great though, definitely has me pumped for the record(s)

 

I don’t really love any of his stray singles tbh but imo where he excels is creating a full album with a particular vibe so I’m not worried
