It took a while for S/T to grow one me but once it did it was my album of the year 2021 - I think this could do the same. Excited to spend more time with it this week. Also if anyone hasn't seen the Tiny Desk performance for S/T it might make you appreciate those songs more:

On my second listen now, and I'm frustrated with Vince's delivery on some of these songs TBH. The lyrics are great but I can't help but wanting more out of his performance. I'm also seeing there are some fans of the production on this record, but it really isn't doing much for me... It's like a Summertime '06 vibe but more straightforward and less energy.

Sad to say this is the first album by him I'm not fully buying into (of course, there are a couple of great songs but the project as a whole just isn't hitting)

Unrelated because I loved this from the get-go but a drive through some gloomy weather with this playing made me love it even more.

I still get frustrated with his monotone sometimes too but I think the writing on here is good enough to overcome that

the second verse on Player Ways, man

Player Ways is a highlight for me right now too, lots to love on here - need more time with it to digest.

Finally going to listen to this with my sister tomorrow lmao

Leading up to this though I've been doing another discography run and I want to rank his albums because I've never done it before. S/t definitely grew on me a lot but I still can't put it above anything from his 2013-2017 run

Papercuts with headphones hits different. There’s a lot of little details in that beat that I wasn’t hearing initially.

Okay so I have finally listened. This kinda had the opposite problem for me than the self-titled album on one listen; for the last album, his delivery was a little disappointing to me but I loved the beats, and on this one I love his rapping but the production is kind of boring to me. I'm sure it will grow on me the more I listen, I'm just more used to Vince albums being immediate for me instead of growers, which the last two now have been

Highlights on first listen were Aye, Magic, When Sparks Fly, Papercuts, Lemonade and Rose Street, which is a pretty damn good number

Yup, growing on me too. Been pretty much on repeat all week so far. It's not my fault THE BLUES flows perfectly back into THE BEACH.

I think my only complaint is I feel like the lil baby verse is weak compared to other features he has done for other artists tbh.
