The repetitiveness might not make it a great album, but it will probably lend to me replaying it whenever I'm in the mood for this vibe lol
def a bit samey — it’d be a bigger problem for me if it were a longer album. the broken bells comparison is a good one. i liked it
Honestly loved this, I guess I can see the “too samey” complaint but idk for a 35 minute album I thought it had a great vibe with enough variation in Vince’s energy (if not as much variation in production as I might’ve liked). Big Bad Wolf is a banger, probably my favorite track
Yeah, this is great. Only had one full listen so far and I'm sure it will grow on me like most of his stuff does. Stayed up late to watch the livestream last night and it's still available, band was pretty sick: https://www.youtube.com/live/mF_axuy5a5Q?si=J12EmkCICURSg7B1
I think if you cut "TV Guide" and "Only in America," maybe "Go Go Gorilla," you have a very fun EP/mini-LP
Cool record, nothing too great for me unfortunately. Do You Know The Devil is really cool. Might return a bit because its a unique sound but I don't think it resonated too much
The songs here read less as overtly repetitive to me as they do just homogenous in vibe. IMO that’s more of a feature than a bug when it comes to artists exploring new sounds TV Guide is the only one not really hitting after a few listens. Idk that hook just doesn’t land for me
First listen I like the instrumentation and sound overall, but it does start to blend together a little too much as others have said. That being said, I love Vince so I’m going to give this a ton of spins and some more differentiation and details might present themselves. Blackberry Marmalade, Go Go, White Flag, and Cotton are standouts on first listen.
i wish i could get into the overall sound here because the lyrics are really something else. i appreciate his boldness to do a project like this, he definitely flirted with some of this aesthetic on self titled so i’m not necessarily surprised he’s swinging like this on this record but yeah my tastes just don’t align all that much what he’s doing here unfortunately. but some stuff is undeniably pretty cool. rooting for him and always will be, love when a rapper takes their shit serious and expands out to unexpected territory. love when a guy like vince tests his audience
Got around to this, think it's pretty great. I don't mind the samey-ness of the songs, it's just a really sick vibe and I enjoy listening to him over it. 7 in the Morning is a great way to close it out.
The instrumentation also reminds me of some of SAULT’s releases (like Today & Tomorrow) in as many spots as it reminds me of 2000’s Danger Mouse
vince sounding like he's got energy again on this thing. that's enough for me. think these'll feel better live than how they're presented here. also most of his records since FM! have been pretty focused conceptually and sonically, so I'm not surprised by his limited focus on the record
Swing and a miss for me. the instrumentals are dull and vince's pared down lyrics don't play to his strengths, nor does he take the opportunity to try out anything new vocally
i've really been enjoying the simplicity of this and the hooks really work for me. always been more partial to him and his livelier side.
