I loved the last album but I have a strong feeling this is going to be my favorite album by him since Big Fish Theory
Self-Titled is still my favorite and deserves for love imo. Best best beats, concise...felt like a statement record.
He’s gotta be bringing out a live band for the eventual tour right? I’ve wished in the past for him to do that, but this is the first record of his that actually calls for it 3/3 on the singles, can’t wait for Friday
Haven't listened to Cotton yet because it's so close to release day. Very excited...he's doing the livestream thing tonight but it's at 12am EST - Might have to stay up late though:
This is good stuff. Maybe a little samey throughout, but if you like the vibe of the singles as much as I did, you're going to enjoy this. "Do You Know the Devil" is great.
Good first listen overall, but yes it's basically the same song 10 times in a row with a few variations. "Cotton" is an early favorite, it stands out from the rest, it groooves
This kind of has that 2000s Danger Mouse sound that I was never a huge fan of. The singles are great, but I don’t see myself returning to this.
I like the idea of this record more than the actual record. Vince on this kind of instrumentation is cool but the drums and guitar mostly bored me. Cotton is a banger though
Really liked my first listen of this a lot. While it would’ve been cool to get something a little more majestic from this sound, I admire the ambition and think it sounds good on him. Singles aside, Go Go Gorilla and The Running Man really did it for me
This is spot on but it works for me as a huge fan of Broken Bells’ first LP. If you don’t dig that though this LP is not going to be for you.
Really enjoyed this. Think this will sit as a good ying/yang to Dark Times when I want something different pace of Vince to listen to.
interesting album. I definitely like some of this, maybe more in concept. he may have bit himself in the ass by implying this album was influenced by James Brown like others have said, a lot of the beats are samey although I appreciate the vibe shift and the overall sense of playfulness I get from the album. I kinda wish he took it more seriously and went a step further. I wonder how this would sound with actual live rock instrumentation and not loops. and while the beats are different from what we're used to, his delivery is still a bit predictable and lyrics are a step-down from what I'm used to with him. all that said, it's fun and I still enjoy it more on my first impression than his last two
