Not sure if any of yall are into the Southeast Asian music scene, but Vietnam has some pretty superb artists making indie/pop music right now. There's two bands in particular I enjoy:

    Ngọt

    Cá Hồi Hoang

I've actually had the pleasure of seeing Cá Hồi Hoang live in Saigon and they are incredible.

I don't like it. It's not bad, just not my thing.

I always wonder how much influence language has over music. I only speak English fluently, so I get nothing out of Vietnamese lyrics, but I still find I enjoy Japanese citypop and a decent amount of French music as well. Curious as to whether certain languages are just more appealing to the ear in music.

I think language definitely plays a role in the phrasing of the singing and in the style that predominates in the culture.
Vietnamese words are mostly (if not all) monosyllabic, so genres like Rap work very well with the structure of the language.
