I haven’t played the new THPS3+4 but the changes I see people talking about just make it sound like a hollowed out version of the originals, which was how I felt about the first two remasters. (Which I still had fun with.) It’s just weird to me that they wouldn’t be handled with more love and resources considering the series’ fanbase/cult status but maybe I’m overestimating the appetite for a super faithful recreation of the originals

A year or two ago I installed the PC versions of the OG games on my Steam Deck, which look and play great, so at least I have those.

I think there absolutely could've been more love shown to the originals, like including more original soundtrack songs and in some of the map design. I do think though, what goes hand in hand with that is them recognizing that what fans say they want aren't actually things they'd enjoy in the end. A lot of these things in these games just do NOT age well and switching it up can be extremely helpful in creating a fun experience in 2025. It's a hard art to execute especially in a remake, and I think in some ways they did good and in other ways they did bad

Then there are things like Maul/Wolverine which we know are solely because of Disney but that's its own thing

Beat avowed. Really solid game tbh, it was a good first attempt at a non tactical RPG in the Pillars franchise. Gameplay was super smooth, zones and exploration were unique and interesting, I think my only complaint was what everyone has been vocal about lack of RPG/choices. No "bad" decisions etc. You can't even steal or be a thief lol. Or attack NPCs. But I get it. And for the story it was telling it was fine. Hopefully we get a sequel because the Pillars world can always be explored in other stories.

Shoutouts to all the cool tools I’m getting in Death Stranding 2, but I’m afraid I’ll be coffin boarding everywhere exclusively from now on

Rog Xbox Ally is $700 and the Ally X apparently $1050.

Sheesh. I definitely liked the idea but not at that price.

I personally don’t see why every rpg has to have a stealing mechanic or allow you to kill NPC’s. I also think it has a good story and great world building. Most slept on game of the year

My Xbox controller drift was unfixable after about 90 minutes today. Definitely makes me less interested in ever getting a custom controller again.

One thing I really liked was the parkour and the exploration combined with puzzles, and in games like Oblivion and Skyrim I've always enjoyed Thieves Guild missions and I just think had there been some gigantic castle we had to sneak into and steal stuff all the while solving puzzles it would have been neat. Because the level design was great in avowed, I really did enjoy discovering every corner of the map and finding the rorem pieces and hidden treasures before ever going to the city and purchasing the maps lol. I think one of the main things unlike about a "evil" playthrough is narrative differences. How different choices and actions lead to different narrative options and choices how people talk to you, etc. It gives replayability for sure. Just off the top of my head....take BG3 for instance, the game offers up quite the different playthrough depending on actions you take that can drastically alter each experience. Here the game was pretty straightforward and other than class builds and weapons there isn't that much reasons to replay.

But yeah, this game deserves more love. I dunno if people forgot it existed or what but it's definitely in my top 5 of the year. It did so much right and I have a hard time finding any faults.

Oh yeah and the gear system, uniques and all the different builds was extremely fun to build around!

Bought it on a whim last week. It is nuts to me you can have access to over 100 games, no ps5 console, and have it run this well for 130 during the prime sale. Psyched to get into some of this generations games, it’s been years since I’ve played anything.

But like…this game isn’t Skyrim, it wasn’t trying to be Skyrim, I don’t have any interest in opining over a game lacking something it was never meant to have. It also isn’t bg3 and was never going to be bg3 so using that comparison doesn’t make sense to me either. Idk. I think there’s something to be said for meeting a game where it’s at instead of being let down it isn’t something else

Avowed was fine but nothing I ever will revisit. Kind of a slog to get through at times, but it had some decent peaks.

The story just felt too linear and the characters in my party felt forced. Like, Marius or yatzli would make a joke and I’d feel like I’m supposed to laugh but it really wasn’t that funny. This also isn’t a complaint about having gay characters in a game, but Kai’s relationship felt shoehorned in, not something authentic. I guess that’s how I felt about the game as a whole - it did the things it was “supposed” to do, but it did it in a way that was like checking boxes.

Admittedly I didn't really pay attention pre release if they touched on the RPG/player choice/etc. But judging how games that it's SIMILAR in scope to and how past Pillars games give you freedom to play however I'm sure you can see why some people expressed disappointment. I mean I didn't play at launch but I saw this sentiment everywhere. And some people made it a bigger deal and felt like it ruined the game, but I'd never take it that far lol. And also, wasn't Obsidian's last game The Outer Worlds pretty open on now it let the player play? But like I said, narratively I *get* why it doesn't let you morally veer off the path the game has set for you.
