Everything is bad and sucks you will never catch me arguing that. What I will say is that Phil Spencer should’ve been a bad guy years and years ago while these teams were still fully intact and get these studios on the right track. I know that might come across as anti art but I only mean that taking Fallout away from Bethesda only and giving it to Obsidian means we could’ve had the New Vegas spiritual successor by now. If we’re forced to exist in the world where art and entertainment is so grossly tied to the dream of exponential capital growth, Spencer really set up XBOX as a whole for failure.
If it wasn't for Clockwork Revolution being deep into development, I'd argue they should've given Fallout to inXile instead. Let Fargo take a crack at it. Sawyer should be making Pillars of Eternity 3 with Baldur's Gate 3 level of production value but that was never going to happen, under Spencer or Sharma. Pillars my beloved.

Chris Avellone is actually stating otherwise on his twitter. Apparently Sawyer was trying to make a new Fallout game but Bethesda argued against it, so I guess Phil decided to respect Todd's decision? So Sawyer started work on a different RPG with similar elements, but now he's just been given the reigns on a new Fallout game anyway.
i wonder if that’s recent because from what i remember back when the acquisition first happened he was not interested, but this would’ve been around the time he was trying to get pentiment made

Yep. Most likely after Pentiment, which he had been wanting to make for a long time. That game was definitely a priority for him over everything else. Maybe after he felt ready to take on Fallout again and thought he could since both companies were under Microsoft. But I guess Todd refused.

Speaking of Obsidian, I guess we won’t get another Grounded game in the future. That’s a shame, they’re both really cool takes on the open world survival genre and fighting a giant spider as a shrunk down kid is just fucking cool yet terrifying equally.
