sorta related - i just finished Schrier's book about Blizzard and am listening to his other book Blood Sweat & Pixels now and boy the video game business sure is insane
This is a great reminder that I need to finish my own copy that’s sitting on my living room coffee table. Great book, loved the part of Diablo’s origins
This is, while still very terrible, at least not as bad as I was fearing since all the developers still exist for the moment, although I am worried for Arkane, because that doesn't sound great.
I hope all of those studios do well away from Microsoft, Arkane worries me too because of the rumors about Blade getting cancelled because it’s not shaping up well and it’d be awful to see such a great studio shut down over that.
Arkane makes immersive sims, so that automatically makes them cursed. I hate to be negative about their future but I'll be very surprised if they survive this.
blade won’t get cancelled but the studios future depends on it and even if it’s successful it may not be enough to keep them afloat
Man things are looking bleak speaking of Double Fine, I just finished Psychonauts yesterday, which I loved. Incredible gameplay, very funny, art style is cool too. I loved all the ridiculous and creative characters and their designs. I enjoyed it so much I went straight into 2 which I had downloaded and ready to go and its just as good if not better so far. I think they improved the controls a ton, way smoother and the button layout makes a lot more sense imo. Still getting used to the R3 lock on instead of L1.
i'm sporadically tuning in to summer games done quick. i prefer watching speedruns of games i've already played buuut i fell asleep before they got to thirsty suitors (12:30am) and death's door (2:50am) haha. watching constance now, which i haven't played (it's on my wishlist but hasn't gone over 20% off), looks sooo pretty. ~~~ edit: oof, went to the bathroom and when i came back he was done haha ~~~ in other news, i'm still playing the spirit lift. i'm experimenting with different team comps. and getting my butt kicked lolol. it's still fun tho and i'm always discovering/unlocking new cards and gear every run. it's mostly playable on tablet except when you're navigating the hallways, the arrows don't register the touchscreen for some reason, so i have to have a mouse or keyboard hooked up.
One of my friends at work got caught up in the layoffs (last member of the DEI team at Sledgehammer)… I’m so tired.
