iirc the FF7 remake isn't a 1:1 adaptation of the original? does the game itself acknowledge in the narrative that it's like a different timeline, an alternate retelling?
Yeah, at the beginning of FF7 remake Cloud breaks the fourth wall by looking at the camera and declaring “listen up fuckers: this ain’t your Grandma’s FF7” (sorry for not having a real answer for you)
it is not a 1:1 adaption of the original and the fact that they called it "Final Fantasy VII Remake" is the biggest crime they committed with this trilogy imo. Slight not-really-a-spoiler I guess: it should have been titled something like "Final Fantasy VII: Remake" in a Kingdom Hearts style so that people understand it's a remake of the old game and also a re-make of the old game in a way that makes it pretty strongly feel like a stealth sequel. Slightly more spoilery spoiler: A big part of the first game is the Whispers (the ghosts) trying to ensure the timeline doesn't change even when things go differently compared to the original game, and the final cutscene of Remake is a pretty big change that also makes no sense if you aren't familiar with the Compilation in general. Rebirth plays it fairly straight for the most part but even there, there are some big changes to the order of events, or how certain events play out. We don't know exactly how much Revelation is going to deviate and they could either play it mostly straight to the OG or they could really go out there, at this exact moment it could easily go either way. It's why even though I understand why people hate it when people say "you should really play the OG and Crisis Core before you play this!", I do think it is the best way to experience these games, and not doing so is a massive disservice to yourself.
I actually thought calling it Remake was pretty smart. The whole time leading up to the game's release, I wondered why bother putting Remake in the title? Why not just call it Final Fantasy VII, full stop? But in retrospect it makes sense.
I think, at the end of the day, if you wanna play the Remake trilogy, you should just play them, because they are truly wonderful games. You might get to the end of Remake and go "what!!!!!" and then want to play OG/CC again/for the first time, or you might remember enough of the OG to be like "woah!!!!!" and not need/want to replay it. As you can tell by my avatar I'm obviously very biased and FF7 in particular has been one of my favourite games (franchises???) for like 28 or 29 years (I learned to read pretty much by playing Pokémon Blue and FF7), so I have a pretty strong opinion about "people really should do it the way I say", but if the choice for you is "play the remake trilogy and not the other two because I just wanna play the remake trilogy because they look cool and I don't really wanna spend another 35ish hours playing two other games to play the cool looking one(s)" or "not play them because the guy on Chorus.fm said I HAVE to play the older games first and I don't wanna play 35 hours of other games so I won't play any of them", I'd rather you just played the remake trilogy haha. Not to make my opinion sound too important or anything, I just don't wanna put you off of playing them just because I have an idealised idea of an experience that not everyone cares as much about as I do.
The hiss didn’t really bother me that much besides a few that got too spooky but then I get to the mold area and I’m like aw hell nah lmao (control obviously)
'Make some noise': Vanillaware reportedly wants more of its games on PC, but it's up to the publishers MAKE SOME NOIIIIIIISE
