Just finished Replaced and since I think the reviews are a little low here are my thoughts: 8.5/ 10 PROS Absolutely gorgeous art style. The 2.5D pixel graphics are some of the best I've seen, helped by great camera angles, lighting, and a cool cinematic presentation integrating cut scenes and camera changes. The menu/UI design is cool. It fits the game's vibe and makes reading the text logs and finding the collectibles more enjoyable than chore. Excellent level design during the mission segments. Gunplay, melee combat, platforming, and exploration all work together really well. It's a linear game (no choices, no branching paths / multiple attack angles) but it never felt restrictive. Checkpoints are fair and there are very few genuinely frustrating sections because of that. The story kept me engaged throughout. It's not the most original cyberpunk story ever told, and some twists are easy to see coming, but it all came in together nicely and the atmosphere more than made up for it not being entirely fresh. Great worldbuilding through side characters, background conversations, environmental details, and text logs. Combat is fun and frantic. It can feel a little clunky at times, but it's decent to good. It is a little repetitive towards the end but it does spread out the combat upgrades / abilities. The puzzles are fairly simple, but they're integrated naturally into the levels and never feel like they're interrupting the flow of the game or something you’d get stuck on. Some cool minigames that fit the world's lore and style really well. Good length / doesn't overstay it's welcome. Nine chapters, around 12 hours to finish, and priced fairly for what you're getting It may be closer to 9 or 10… those minigames… spent a lot of time on those.. CONS The station/hub sections involve a lot of backtracking and walking around. I enjoyed them because I liked the world, but I can see other players finding those sections extremely slow to even boring. Platforming feels a little awkward at first and takes some getting used to with when you need to jump. Once it clicks though, it's rarely an issue, but a few areas did drive me a little crazy trying to figure out where to go, or seeing where to go but not getting it to work. Combat has a similar problem. It's fun, but not always fluid, especially when you're trying to close distance on enemies for the armor breaking attacks. (I know I put this a pro and con. It's a fun system, but the movement is undeniably clunky at times). I wish there was some voice acting and more memorable music. It could have had the music turned up during combat encounters ala hotline Miami or katana zero and a few of the main cast could have had voiced lines. OVERALL It's just a stylish cyberpunk action / platformer with incredible pixel art, strong world building, and consistently fun / engaging gameplay. It doesn't do much new, but it executes almost everything well in a gorgeous package and it kept me wanting to play just one more chapter till I was finished.
Oh yeah it has nothing to do with this thread, just won’t see it cuz I have a billion shows I haven’t seen and probably won’t get to Frieren in the span of my life Hopefully I do but I assume some things won’t make the cut. But I’ve only ever heard good things about it for a while now
that is not a beginner anime also why are we talking about anime in the video games thread when there's an anime thread to talk about anime in we should be talking about video games instead
AoT is a perfect beginners anime lol. Also the new game is gonna be fucking sick, can't wait to relive the entire final final season.
The sound design of Marathon is just so good, shit gets so tense when you hear gunfire and foot steps and you’re frantically trying to find where the source is coming from to prepare
Yeah if you wanna traumatize someone right out the gate Any of the big three would probably be better starting points (idk I never started One Piece or finished the other two) Or FMA:B Or JJK or Demon Slayer if you want something newer Don't just throw them into the deep end without teaching them how to swim. I feel like everyone should watch Madoka and Evangelion but I wouldn't make that their FIRST anime
Why do problem people online always have an anime avatar? It’s like this bizarre thing you all share.
