I’ve been trying to complete my backlog before starting new games so I’ve stayed out of a lot of new big games this year. Wife and I should be finishing up Split Fiction soon. We’re almost on the last chapter
For real. I can’t even finish Rebirth without wanting to play Warcraft 3 and Rematch. And then I’ve been playing Fortnite with my gf, started another run of RDR2, still haven’t finished Persona 4, still want to play Death Stranding…I envy people who can finish anything lol.
No new games for me. Popped back into Fallout 4 for a couple of hours on Sunday and Monday with an early level 9 character. Wondering through the wasteland on a clear Sunday afternoon, exploring, listening to the 10/10 ambient Inon Zur soundtrack was a little peace of euphoria for me. Saw on the Xbox game page for this game it showed I had 7d 20h of total playtime which was 188 hours. That is absolutely on the north end of time played for any game for me. I think my most played would be: 1 Destiny 1 1100ish hours 2 Destiny 2 400-500 3 Skyrim 200+ 4 Fallout 4 188 ---------- Final Fantasy 10? After that i don't even know.
I actually started Diablo IV yesterday lol. I played for like 8 hours. I’m used to stronger stories, but the gameplay is addicting. Something simple to hold me over till DS2 tomorrow.
There’s simply nothing about Diablo’s gameplay that can hold my attention longer than 10-20 minutes. It barely registers as an activity. PoE 2 started out really promising, I loved actually having to pay attention to the encounters. But it also devolved into just clicking things dead pretty quickly. Oh well. also leave it to the god-awful ARPG fanbase to complain even the tiniest amount of friction away, making these games the equivalent of eating a bag of chips.
There's something to be said for mindless activities that leave you free to focus on other things while you do them.
How do you feel about Path of Exile 2? I want to check it out, but idk about paying for early access when it will be free eventually.
my thoughts on PoE 2 are in the second paragraph, but long story short: I really liked the first 2-3 hours then it became just another ARPG for me.
I 100% agree, it's just not for me, which is why I'm sad that a game I thought wasn't that becomes that over time. Seemingly the same thing is true for Death Stranding 2, where the sequel really is just a dumbed down version of the first one that seemingly "addresses criticisms" but just cuts down on friction, trivializes and homogenizes the experience. (based purely on conjecture, I haven't played it myself even though I am eager to)
haha, sorry, I meant to ask if you wanted me to be more specific than that. it's ok, no one reads the thread.
They need to fix FFXIV, their beloved cash cow. All the jobs have basically become the same thing and their formula has become stale, a sentiment even being felt by the more casual player base. That said, would love a return to some sort of turn based mainline FF.
This year I unsubbed and it's the first time I've unsubbed since starting ARR. It's just such a drag to play right now, impossible to motivate myself to do anything because it's SO stale
Gonna be a minute before I shut up about this game, but Death Stranding 2 introducing weird little guys at an incredible clip
I can not strress this enough: If a mainline Final Fantasy did Clair Obscur numbers they might as well shut down Square. If anything, CO33 is proof that going turn based is actually a huge gamble, as the price point and the number of sales at THAT meta score would barely break most AAA productions even. This narrative is just weird at this point. Square already makes great turn based games right now, you just have to buy them.
