Arc Raiders is so much fun. I love how unpredictable each run can be even as I continue to get the hang of it and have increasingly better loadouts. I also think the free loadout is brilliant - it makes being able to turn the game on just to do a quick loot run far more doable. My only real complaint is inventory management is a nightmare and I wish there were a search tool.
taking a sip out of my “all generative ai is bad” mug as I check in with my favorite developers sandfall and Larian to see what they’ve been up to
I'm trying to parse if Larian is actually doing anything bad or if they're just a victim of some overzealous article writing.
I think using genAI for anything is pretty bad, and their whole “it’s just for ideas” is the definition of a slippery slope and normalization of something very bad
I don't necessarily agree but I don't know what they're using it for specifically so I can't comment.
idk if usage of ai in art at any stage is a moral failing. If none of what I'm seeing on screen was generated or written by ai shouldn't I be fine with it? Isn't ai used all the time in smaller ways that we don't talk about? I don't think I'm well informed enough to have a definite answer. I guess I can see it being a slippery slope in which case we shouldn't excuse it at all
generative ai in any context is bad and destroying our planet. machine learning has far more nuance. what’s being discussed here is genAI
I think that's where my disconnect is, idk the terminology, or how any of it works. I joke that I wouldn't mind a machine making my McDonald's or Starbucks order, but if that's also killing our planet I don't want any of it
I confess that besides using ChatGPT at work to help me think outside the box or try to get information faster than I otherwise might, I am also using it at home to write Python scripts to help me automate making playlists of artist discographies in chronological order, a task that I would not normally do on my own because I don't have the patience to sit down and learn an entire programming language in my spare time. What I'm saying is while I am very much against AI in several respects, I'm not above using it while it exists, and I am therefore part of the problem.
eh i think youre fine pen. when companies use it to replace peoples jobs or steal ip thats bad. thats simple and everybody gets that.
personal AI use is one thing, I don’t get it and don’t do it myself but too many people I know and love do for me to make a big deal about it anytime it pops up, but huge companies using it for creative endeavors and on a scale that is absolutely obliterating the environment and people’s living conditions via data centers is disgusting and should be called out
Thank you all for absolving me of my sins. I appreciate it. In super disgusting news, we just had to implement an AI answering service at one of our sites that is supposed to alleviate the number of calls the front desk receives. I hate it and I can very easily see where this is going if it's a success.
