My wife and I have been playing it regularly for two years and it was our first gatcha game. There is A LOT thrown at you at once, which is the one draw back for new players. But the story really drew me in. There are a ton of Honkai YouTube channel to help with lore and beginner guides. FYI, it is turn based and there is A LOT of dialogue and I’ve also heard people say it’s too slow. But, again, the story and lore is worth it. If the gameplay isn’t your thing, Hoyo also makes Genshin Impact, which is more open world exploration like Breath of the Wild but with more collectibles and quests. They make Zenless Zone Zero, which I just started and is more like a lite Persona so far. It’s more urban and not in another world, but still sci-fi. It’s an action game, with pulling new characters. Gacha games get a bad rap, but they keep me playing with new updates when I have no money. And, at least in my experience, they give you fair amount of chances to pull for characters without spending real money.
People aren’t kidding about the Skate Story soundtrack, holy shit I find the controls a bit rough, but I’m sure I’ll get used to them. Weird and very cool game.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is an obvious one. I loved Celeste and Spider Man but yeah it's between GoW and Read Dead easily
yeah it’s between RDR2 and GOW but I know a lot of people really loved rdr2 but I was more in the GOW camp
(sighing loudly to indicate he understands this bit is his cross to bear) Don't forget about Gal-Gun 2! The real dark horse of 2018.
Goddamnittttttt arc raiders. I helped someone take down a massive arc - first time coming face to face with one that size, and my inventory was full of good loot. A few minutes later I died and for the first time someone with a defib happened to be nearby. As they were reviving me, one of the fucking explosive sphere things came over and knocked me back down the second I got up. Lost everything, but at least we had a good laugh about the bad luck.
BG3 is my favorite on that list but I think I would also put it as my personal GOAT so that’s not a surprise
Is Veilguard ok to play if I’ve never played a Dragon Age before? I see I have it through PS+ and I’m kind of in the mood for a nice action RPG
Which Arc was it? I haven't attempted the Queen yet even thought I have like 15 wolfpacks saved up. I've heard nothing but nightmare stories of people ratting Queen killers, I am not ready to be that tilted yet lol. I just died to a Bastion and lost an Anvil Blueprint. Didn't have a safe pocket unfortunately.
it's more of a direct sequel than any of the others. if anything, i'd say you're safe playing Inquisition without having played the previous ones, Veilguard not so much. Inquisition mostly just has some world state stuff carry over, whereas Veilguard has a few main characters from Inquisition
Since I’m currently playing through RDR2 (and the OG RDR remaster), they definitely fucked up giving it to GOW instead imo. I’ve come back to this game a lot over the years, I’m pretty sure I finished GOW and never played through it again. I haven’t even finished Ragnarok.
I hate RDR2 with the passion of a billion burning suns and I *love* GoW but objectively … lmao it’s RDR2 by a country mile
2018 had Celeste, RDR2, GOW, Kingdom Come Deliverance, Monster Hunter World, Shadow Of The Colossus Remake, A Way Out, FAR Lone Sails, Bloodstained: Curse of The Moon, Detroit Become Human, Yoku's Island Express, Warhammer Vermintide 2, Octopath Traveler, Dead Cells, Overcooked 2, Guacamelee 2, Into The Breach, The Messenger, Spider Man, Crosscode, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Astro Bot Rescue Mission, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Return Of The Obra Dinn, Tetris Effect, Subnautica (out of early access, official release) and Super Smash Bros Ultimate. It was an absolutely nuts year for gaming. GOW felt more like an evolution of a stagnant franchise, showing what games could do reimagined for today while RDR2 basically drilled down the realism and technical brilliance while keeping a similar feel to the previous entry. As someone who was not a fan of the God of War franchise at all before the 2018 game, I think it really broadened it's appeal and I very much liked the direction it took. Game of the Year is always a nonsense award. You can take it to mean most influential, most popular, personal GOTY, industry darling, etc. I don't really think you could go wrong with any of the games from that year.
been taking it a chapter at a time but finished chapter 2 of skate story it was a bit more easier than 1 but the music was still bumping
