There’s no way DLC doesn’t get greenlit

 

I had fun with it and put about 30-40 hours into it with my buddies. Have no history with hero shooters or competitive online games in general, so my own low ceiling skill level contributed to quickly reaching a point where I was having no fun with it and every game was a major frustration.

 

Frankly, I don't see a lot of actual, mechanical depth to Rivals, save for another layer of pick coordination to leverage synergies, which then again require another layer of communication that most laymen teams will barely muster. And yeah, that'll probably lead to frustration more than anything.

Speaking of frustration I spent the better part of my weekend playing the Splitgate 2 alpha and absolutely decimating teams single handedly so... lotsa mad players lol

I also had massively painful carpal tunnel from it so justice has been served

Elder scrolls 6 needs to take elements from this game. Not having a lock pick mini game is so good

I think Rivals is fine for what it is. I had fun with it and it did keep me playing and it definitely had enough characters there for me to keep playing. It suffers from the same thing as Overwatch for me though, it doesn’t have as many options for tank or support.

I know damage is always going to be the most popular out of the three but that’s always irked me a bit.

 

I've always preferred support classes so I was so bummed when they had 3000 DPS and 7 support.

 

Any suggestions for a good prebuilt gaming desktop for maybe $800-1000?

I know I could build one from scratch cheaper but... too much of a hassle for me. I have no problem swapping out parts to upgrade it later down the road. I saw these two:

Not sure if it's worth the extra money for me at this time for an i7 and more RAM. Looking for something that can play most games at medium graphics. I just have two HP 524pf 100hz 1080p monitors, so I don't need 4k output or anything

I have a prebuilt NZXT from October 2021. i7, 3060ti, 16gb RAM. If you throw those three filters into newegg you’ll be able to find multiple builds that fall right in your budget. It runs basically everything at 1080p, 60 fps, high graphics without ever breaking a sweat. DLSS is genuinely a game changer with these Nvidia cards.

^ this machine has 32GB of ram so plenty future proof in that regard, sadly, a card with 12/16GB VRAM is not really in your budget, but for longevity's sake, if you could stretch it that way that'd be my advice.

^this only has 16GB of ram but has a more future proof card. more ram is a 50 dollar upgrade in like a year.

the extra 150 bucks the 4060 build up top costs you won't get you meaningful performance over this one if you ask me. Just stay away from largely CPU bound games.

 

Yumia has the best design for an Atelier MC. Like they did not have to go this hard

 

Ryza is pretty slick as well

 

rolled credits on wilds which of course means the game is only really just beginning. from the 15 or so hours the story took I’ll say there are some things about the game I think have been a tad too simplified and bringing back the mounts from rise but using a world style level design undercuts the level design, like you don’t have to soak up every map and learn its nuances anymore. already touched on the color thing but man by the last zone I was like please can something in this game not look grey or beige but alas.

all that said….jfc could the gameplay loop be anymore addicting and perfectly refined? they struck a perfect balance between world and rise when it comes to the pace of combat and how the weapons play as well as monster move sets. people have been saying this game is too easy but I literally didn’t die once in the pre credits section of rise, I think I died four or five times so far in wilds. some of the big bosses were pretty tough and the final story boss def almost made me get my first failed hunt (thankfully it didn’t and I never had to try a hunt twice but I came close with two can’t remember the names off top). weapon and gear upgrading is the same as ever but if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, having the ability to carry two weapons is huge and while I used switch axe and insect glaive almost the entire time I did bring out long sword for a couple fights just to try it. I think I’m gonna give some weapons I’ve never touched a shot here soon as I go back to some of the early hunts for farming just to see what’s up.

as for the story…it was fine. the presentation was extremely impressive but the actual substance wasn’t anything special. what IS special is just the overall vibe…the cadence of conversations and those moments chilling in the villages with the soft acoustic guitar track playing really reminded me of final fantasy 16. very cozy. oh and on the story note I find it interesting how they made the story portion of the game so short compared to previous titles (outside of base rise) but I think it’s a better way to get newcomers into the endgame grind


overall I’m feeling a very strong 9.5/10 as I move into the end game. slightly lower than world for me right now but slightly above rise. I got into both of those after release and only really got deep into rise’s end game so it’ll be fun to keep up with this as new content comes out

 

I don’t mind lock pick mini games but I think avowed shows sometimes all you need to just solid audio/visual feedback and just holding down a button can feel rewarding
