I don't think that anyone is fighting against it though as much as even more strongly encouraging it for other games that had a ton of potential that they couldn't reach

I mean this in the nicest way but "old game is old ewwww" is the stupidest thing ever. Hell, you've got games releasing today, in the year of our Lord 2025 that are trying their best to imitate the graphics of the PS1. Just look at Crow Country:

Plenty of games from 20+ years ago hold up to this day. And thanks to how easy it is now to emulate games, they're extremely accessible (more so if you game on PC) too. There's something to be said when games are doing their best to play like a 20 year old game so "old is old won't play" can get flushed right down the toilet cuz that is shit.

 

I mean I still play MGS1 to this day. I've probably beaten it over 50 times in my life. I still want a goddamn remake. lol

Game looks GREAT.

 

MGS1 is extremely fun and I think I'll wait to see how they handle Snake Eater remake before asking them to remake 1. Cuz that game is perfect as it is!

I still play xenogears and FF8 every year, those are my games I always go back to.

It's SO GOOD. And it hits you right in the nostalgia feels as I felt exactly like I was playing Resident Evil/Silent Hill for the first time. The team behind it really did an awesome job!

 

Counterpoint as someone who just played Crow Country and tying it to your last point as well, it plays well. While there are a lot of games from 20+ years ago that play well and look well there's so many that don't. Some are truly just unfortunate relics that have great concepts, characters or art that have become frustrating to play either due to old technology limitations or poor mechanics.

I think the black and white statement of "old games are bad" is dumb as heck, but there's so much truth behind how clunky and rudimentary a lot of those games feel.

I think every remake/remaster should come with a copy of the original game.

Remakes are cool but honestly instead I’d prefer way more remasters or even just ports, just to get the volume up

 

You’re not wrong, but this is also a disconnect from such a huge percentage of the broad gaming audience. All I was doing was pushing back against the “these games shouldn’t get remakes” argument because:

A) there are millions of gamers out there who will only play these games if they get a modernized remake whether it’s unfortunate or not that they’re unwilling to play the OGs
B) remaking the game doesn’t take away from the OG and it’s an objectively good thing that people are playing a version of a game they never would have played if not for a remake

 

The only remake I’m weary about is MGS3 but that’s because I love the original so much and I feel like I’m gonna nitpick it a bit but I’m also curious and willing to try it.

 

Video games are inherently different from any other common entertainment medium like movie, TV, etc. Unfortunately some video games will require some TLC to make them more palatable for modern society.

 

Yeah I'll give you that not EVERY game holds up but it's not like every game is the ET Atari game which played like a nightmare. I would say the "classics" for the most part, like MGS, FF, even tank control RE/SH (which are what's currently getting remade) are perfectly playable.

While I think it's a great thing for classics to get remade/ported/whatever I think it's fair to be wary. Sometimes the old games have a sort of charm that gets lost in the process of bringing it to current gen. Or they miss the point completely. Like Resident Evil 3, I don't even know why they made any of the decisions they did as the remake was so bad. Yet RE2 on the other hand was a perfect remake! So I don't know what happened there. In a case like that people should only play the PS1 version of RE3. So yeah I welcome updated versions but sometimes I wonder if it's worth it. FF7R is one of the best things squeenix has put out.
Those millions of gamer's viewpoint is doodoo lol. MGS is a fantastic game. But no remake and who knows if we'll ever get one, so people are just voluntarily missing out on their refusal. Like one of the best RPGs of all time, Chrono Trigger......if people aren't gonna play it because it's an old game......shit for brains. All the early RPGs, whatever limitations they had, what they were able to accomplish for only being 16/32bit.....yeah the refusal to play is beyond comprehension.

Like if someone told me they didn't want to play Parasite Eve 1 because of its graphics.....they're getting major side eye LOL. On the other hand I VERY MUCH SO am looking forward to the tony hawk remakes because I feel those especially will make the transition into current gen super smooth.

 

I have all my fingers and toes crossed hoping it turns out well but we'll see.

AT LEAST THEY GOT HAYTER BACK.
