I popped on Dragons Dogma 2 again today, I really like the tweaks they added with the new casual mode and its running better on PC.

    Alright

    E98D0FEC-FFA7-4B6C-A3D1-2336467D1736.png

30+ hours in and I’m finally about to continue the main story. I don’t know if it was an old adventurous urge from exploring GTA maps back in the day but after I received the Sheikah Slate and the paraglider, I thought "hey what if I went on a quest to hunt every tower and as many shrines as I can so I’ll be able to teleport anywhere I want and save time once I have to travel during the main missions".

Turns out it might have been a dumb decision as it made for some long, often infuriating game sessions considering I’ve done that with a little amount of hearts and stamina, at least at first, but good things happen to those who hustle or something.

At the end, I did it! I got many upgrades and what seem to be powerful weapons in the process so I’m ready to see what story awaits me, starting tomorrow with the divine beast found in Zora’s Domain.

Also just found out there’s an additional quest to be unlocked but you have to complete the game first? And you have to pay to play it? It can’t b- *mic cuts out*

Honestly, that’s how I did my first play through. Exploring was such a key part to the game and hitting up all the shrines allowed me to level up stamina/health along the way. Sometimes I’d get to a tower and need to return later. Won’t spoil which one in case you haven’t found it yet. I think the challenging stuff helps you learn.

There is DLC, yes. As for beating the game, this is no Bloodborne.

The real question is: are games content?

If you have not engaged with the mechanics of a game as intended by the creator have you actually “consumed” the content by just breezing through, kind of like a checklist of seen assets?

if you could just run through Elden Ring invincibly by the way of an accessibility feature, have you actually played the game or have you just consumed what was on offer as if that was the content of the game?

Neither Elden Ring nor DKC have a narrative worth seeing through. The progression and the satisfaction thereof come from overcoming the difficulties as presented.

Just as a game of Poker becomes devoid of fun and meaning without something on the line, these games lose so much of their raison d'être without the suspense added by their difficulty.

That is what is great about the trend in recent Nintendo games of offering to beat the level for you after you die a certain number of times. I guess someone could kill themselves intentionally to just skip every level, but what people want is a fair try at least.

I saw through Hades because the game remained challenging while gradually making things a little bit easier in God Mode. You still need to learn boss patterns and how to dash away from enemies but it is less punishing when you make those mistakes. Knowing you get a defense boost makes it more likely to try again rather than to be told to just get better at the thing.

I agree with everything you said, but I still want an easier setting for Souls games because honestly the atmosphere of most of those games are just insane. So I would like a version with slightly less of a challenge personally because I really suck, but I'm also not buying them and getting upset about the mechanics of the games.

to be fair, except for Sekiro, the souls games are chock full of mechanics that make the game easier, including grinding.

or you know just giving me a fucking call.

There’s also watching videos of the game but I get why people don’t want to do that

Except for the people who really don’t want to play the games in the first place

real talk if you start Elden Ring and you do the Weeping Peninsula after getting Torrent and before fighting Margot, the rest of the game (at least the critical path) is a cakewalk.

You underestimate how fucking bad I am. lol I think I made it like 3 bosses into Elden Ring and I even followed whatever good build it was at the time. I'm a story person, so I know it doesn't make sense, but the reason I loved Bloodborne so much was the atmosphere, so that can be a driver sometimes too. The worlds are just cool as hell in most of them and I want to beat the shit out of things in them. But the genre just isn't for me and I've accepted that. lol

It's never close to the same. I tried that with the old Fallout isometric games and the first two Persona games and it gets really boring. The stories just don't work the same.

Maybe I'll try Elden Ring again after Metaphor. Still own it until Sony rips my digital copy from my hands.

Isn't it just cards? I bought that Switch game with like 100 casino games and I still haven't played it.

I lost 100 dollars at the casino on Thursday and I'm still sort of sad about it.
