We are talking about Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, although as others have pointed out many platformers have the same thing. Just beating the game is not enough to get the extra content; you have to go above and beyond that challenge to just unlock the levels.

What you are talking about is completely different. Disco Elysium is a much artier game than LEGO Star Wars, but that is more about genre than accessibility.

I am usually much more polite than the people I am talking with. I certainly know how to talk to people better than someone who goes to a different forum to call someone names.

It isn't really a hill to die on since even the person who was getting most personal with me admitted he couldn't play a certain type of game because it was too hard. I am often surprised at what is controversial on this forum. Sometimes I will say something that I suspect to be controversial but it is either ignored or broadly agreed with, and then I will say something like "everyone should be able to access what they paid for" and a few people get mad.

It's not a perfect analogy in the same way that art is not a perfect analogy either, because video games are their own beast. But in any case, there are different games of varying difficulties to suit all gamers. And even in a game, there is content of varying difficulty to suit all gamers. The point of a challenge level is to challenge. If you take away the challenge, you defeat the purpose of it existing.

You still haven't answered my question of if you even attempted to unlock the levels.

I bought Cuphead years ago and it was really hard so I stopped playing it

 

He's saying you can't just beat the game to access the levels, you have to collect the KONG letters in every level to do it.

Who is more responsible for the difficulty of a game than the game developers? Someone earlier mentioned the Super Nintendo Lion King game, which is one of the most notoriously difficult games there are, made that way to pad a lack of content. Donkey Kong is already known as much harder than the Mario series, and getting the extra things is an even bigger difficulty.
