I started God of War 2018 this morning. Loving it so far.

 

The Rewind your position power in Prince of Persia is so fucking good. Every future ability I've gotten just seems to serve to extend the cool shit you can do with it. Just did the one puzzle at the top of the sacred archives where you had to

Double jump from the wall, then drop the echo mid air, then use your dash to get to the trigger for the popout platform, then quickly go back to your echo where you can reuse your dash but this time you land on the platform that just appeared and can repeat the process to climb further up
just an A+ puzzle all around. Often the puzzles in action games are underwhelming where all the skill is in execution but this game has had a really nice balance of puzzles where you gotta think about how you can use your toolbox to get past it and then the execution is a nice difficulty where it isn't trivial but its also not just soul crushing unfun.

 

I've alluded to this in past posts that Dragon Age was a huge miss, I don't begrudge anyone for not reading the posts but the signs were all there. I think it's generally fair to listen to gamers when they say they're not interested in a product instead of trying to push it on them by telling them they're wrong. (See also Concord, and soon, Fairgame$)

They made a CRPG into a substandard ARPG with a divisive art style, forgettable story and characters, unappealing structure, and honestly some of the worst writing I've seen in a big budget RPG. It's a shame that it was difficult to have a conversation about this game and criticize it without emotions running high (either by hopeful fans or idiot anti-DEI warriors).

 

also BioWare is now a glorified Battlefield support studio. At this point I don't even know if we're getting Mass Effect 5.

Many targets are probably too high, yes. Usually however that is because costs are too high. Costs are, partly if not mostly, too high because the expectations of gamers have become too high when it comes to AAA games, especially regarding the amount of content and the visual fidelity (and because games, despite the price hike, are often relatively cheap, especially in era of digital sales). It’s a vicious circle. It’s also the reason Sony wanted to put out more GaaS.

 

To be fair The Veilguard was rebooted multiple times, it was also supposed to be a GaaS at some point. lol
