I've struggled to always apply this concept but I try to be a "what artists say about their own work doesn't matter" truther. The desperation in the industry at this point just means developers and publishers are throwing stuff at the wall hoping something sticks. These companies are not morally or ethically bound to much of anything. They care about money and if they think that means virtue signalling to one side over another, that's what they'll do.

That's not to say those who do care about what they say are wrong or anything. Games are my escape though and although I do fail at times, I tend to enjoy games better when I'm not thinking about what the developers say. Or especially the grifters on youtube who've made their careers out of judging games based on everything except what makes this medium awesome.

Wow. PS5 remaster of TLOU Part 1 looks incredible. Never played these games before

 

the writing for The Ascent was pretty boring and that didn't change for the dlc. the new areas and especially the new weapons are fun though

 

I was going to play mafia but seeing all this talk about ghost of Tsushima made me go screw it let’s actually beat this since I basically did the tutorial and quit last time. I’m already like 5 missions in.

 

I go back every once in a while to try again, but Sifu kicks my ass. Can’t get past like the 3rd level

 

Imagine if the rumored Insomniac X-Men game pulls inspiration from the FF7R combat system. Shit could be incredible.

Afterimage and Have a Nice Death are fun so far. Afterimage has an awkward English dub so I'm trying out the Japanese and Chinese to see which I like better. Have a Nice Death has smoother platforming, and you can actually dodge through enemies without getting hurt, buuut it has that same sort of unintelligible voice acting as like Ori and Hollow Knight where it's not really in any language. idk which one I'll finish before jumping into my next big game. Maybe both?

Speaking of which, I was thinking my next big game would be Jedi Survivor, but if, for example, i end up playing Afterimage, Have a Nice Death, and whatever other smaller game I decide to start, until April? I might just skip Jedi Survivor for now and jump straight into TLOU2 haha

I was playing the Ascent dlc on mute bc I wanted to listen to the news and kinda keep an eye on the fires that way but I'm just a big bundle of anxiety right now so I decided to give myself somewhat of a break and watch the news on mute instead while playing with the audio on. Yayyy...

 

yeah ghost of Tsushima is sick as hell idk how I gave up so quickly last time but I’m all about dodging and getting that counter off

I have some thoughts about Final Fantasy XVI, a game I mostly enjoy:

- The game looks perfect. Not quite as good as Veilguard but close.
- Clive looks like shit in every outfit except the second one. Sad I can't switch back to that.
- The absolute tonal whiplash between trying to tell a serious Game of Thrones'esque story, interspersed with dumb spectacle kaiju fights sure is a choice.
- The combat seems a little one note, I am essentially just managing cool-downs while dialing in very basic combos to whittle down very long health bars. This could be just user error. It's not unenjoyable, it's fairly satisfying when stuff connects, but it's clearly lacking any sort of meaningful depth (or challenge) so far.
- The first open area was kind of cool.
- The first dungeon was pretty awesome, even though I would've loved a little more puzzle solving/exploring.

I'm about 8 hours in fwiw.
