Just got to 4-4 in Spelunky 2, the farthest I’ve ever gotten, and in the daily challenge no less so I’m currently in second place of the 20 other people who have played it (heh). Only reason I died was because I got scared by an enemy and for jumped in the opposite direction right into some spikes, lol.

All I can find on kingdom come is the dev throwing a fit when a historian pointed out historically there would be people of color in the games hyper realistic setting

Yeah I downloaded the Witcher 3 cuz it's a new PS+ monthly game, haven't played since it originally launched. Hoping the PS5 glow up is good.

Hoping against hope this gets a simultaneous PC launch. It's not a system seller but I'll happily pay full price on day one.

a testament to the old sins Prestigious

for the health of the game it'd be really good to launch it simultaneously on PC, but I feel Sony has to eat shit with their mid-tier exclusives a couple more times before they're going to shift their strategy.

that said, I'm right there with you hoping for the same.

    Enjoying Wukong

Disagree with the reviews wrt the story being a bad adaptation of Journey to the West because it assumes you know the story already. Like a lot of old myth, the actual book Journey to the West is a 2000+ page book that assumes you know a lot of the stories and religious influences already much like The Odyssey which is celebrated for this and regarded as one of the best even. Both works have characters show up for a bit, talk cryptically about their origins and motivations, and don’t necessarily have anything to do with the over arching plot. We celebrate this in Western literature and call these vignettes.

This trend in myth of being thrown into a world without exposition explaining every detail and assuming the audience has some knowledge of how these stories already or can infer things is hallmark of fantasy. Definitely not to everyone’s taste even with modern western fantasy, but I suspect that because our empires are saber-rattling with each other their some Orientalism to blame for how this game is being received story wise. I like that this is a bold new approach to chinese myth that is challenging.

    Anyways! Finished chapter 1!

The story about the Black Wind King and his corrupted view of the Kasaya really resonated with me! The bear spirit being the stand in for his greed. We all know bears can be destructive forces of nature so thought that was a neat connection. But the story of a pious person who becomes corrupted by religious garb, the status it represents and the power and greed it affords the person is very relatable! Right now America is being ruined by christian zealots who hide behind the cross for monetary gain and the power it gives them to hate. they’ve been corrupted in the same way!

At the end when the bodhisattva(?) remarks that the monks are given the cloth to test to see if they can move beyond it in their devotion? GREAT kinda like how the ideas of christianity of love and acceptance still prevail despite those who corrupt it.

there’s more that connects us across cultures than divides us!

    Love this game.
