It was the first game I bought for my switch but still haven’t touched it lol I gotta play it

 

personally loved it, but it's a remake of an obscure SNES game that never made it out of Japan until this version, so very niche. That said, the remake is incredible - you get to play 8 characters over the course of history - prehistory, middle ages, present day, far future, etc. You get to play as a caveman, a martial artist, a cowboy, a ninja, etc. Battle system is fun and the game is beautiful. I had a ton of fun with it!

 

Are there references to the other timelines? Or is each one 100% self-contained?

 

I haven’t played the actual game yet, so I can’t answer this question. But there is a demo fyi!

 

Zelda needs to do an elbow drop from the top rope.

I bought a new PS5 controller because I didn’t feel like trying to get my old one fixed but now I’m ready for Elden ring expansion

 

On vacation so I started the Octopath Traveler 2 demo and wow Mother is a horrible person!

 

Anyone big on Alan Wake II? I got a PSN giftcard for my birthday and was considering it. The first one was just okay to me but because of how inspired it is by Twin Peaks I'm really thinking of pulling the trigger on it.

 

It’s one of my favorite games of all time. For me, the best thing about part one was the story and the gameplay was meh, but part two really improved it. The Twin Peaks influence is even more on this one.

 

I started with Hikari, but yeah, Mother is awful. Make sure you get a bunch of travelers! One thing I can see turning people off from the game is not liking a character’s story, but all of them are very different.

 

I’m sure it will become clear soon, but I have no idea what it means to “get a bunch of travelers,” haha.

I’m only an hour into the demo and so far I’m REALLY enjoying it. The scale of the game is still daunting since I rarely finish anything these days, but it’s getting harder and harder to imagine not purchasing it. The art style alone is amazing.

 

Ah, ok. It’s definitely not a spoiler, since it’s the game’s premises. You can go to different towns on the map and recruit travelers or characters to join your party. You can play their chapter one’s too. After that, you can play their next chapters in any order, but it does show a recommended level. I’m doing all 8 chapter one’s, then all their chapter two’s etc. You don’t need to get all 8 characters to finish the game, but it gets you the full story and you don’t do anything to recruit them, they just ask you.

 

Ooohhh I figured it’d naturally progress to all the stories so it’s good to know that’s not the case! I’ll likely play like you do.

If the Twin Peaks feel of the first one pulled you into the game, Alan Wake II amps up that unsettling vide up and just does some jaw dropping spectacular visual stuff. It’s worth the price of admission to see the stuff they do with live action video. II also starts off with a lot more weird/unsettling stuff and goes hard from there iirc.

Combat is weird though. It’s pretty good and feels weighty compared to the last one, but there generally isn’t that much of it. I think the Resident Evil 2 remake is probably a good analog for what the combat is going to feel like, but 100% recommend if the story/setting of the last one was what hooked you.

 

Player's Log

Finished The Last Campfire, what a pretty little game. Completely out of my normal preferences but it looked cool and was on sale for $2. Beat it in maybe 4ish hours.

Picked up Trails to Azure since it's on sale to continue my Trails journey. Also picked up Saga of the Moon Priestess because it looks exactly like the Gameboy era Zelda games (it's kind of a shameless rip tbh) and I want more of that in my life.

 

Fear Effect, fuck yeah.
