Player's Log: Rusty Lake

So I finished both The White Door and Samsara Room, what with the latter being relatively short.

The former was honestly a little repetitive what with having to perform the same actions in each chapter, but that feels like an intentional thing, so I'm not going to knock it. Plus it's interesting getting a window in the life and times of someone who really amounts to just a bit player in this ongoing saga.

Anyway, I have two more games: The Past Within and Underground Blossom.

The former is... going to be interesting to see if I can actually play it, since it's supposed to be a co-op game where one player plays "the past" and the other plays "the future". I'm going to attempt to play it solo with the help of some guides. Sure, I won't get the experience the developers intended, but it's either that or I just don't play it, so...

Player's Log: Rusty Lake

I finished The Past Within, and it's a very interesting game.

The way it's supposed to work is that you and another player (you both need copies of the game) choose which one of you is in The Past and which one is in The Future.

There are two parts to each section of the story, one is a 2D point and click similar to the other Rusty Lake games, and the other is a 3D section involving a puzzle box, not unlike The Room games I just went through. As you solve puzzles on each other's end, you relay information to the other party so they can solve more puzzles, and so on and so forth, until you both reach the end together.

Of course since I had all the solutions, I could easily play the game and get all the achievements by myself. I played through The Past and then played through The Future, and saw it from both ends, which is interesting because I see now how I would have obtained the information I used if I had been playing the game properly.

It's really quite excellently designed. It's just not conducive to single-player activities, so... sorry game designers!

Anyway, I'm now on the final game in the series so far, Underground Blossom, which is a single-player experience.

 

Cookie Cutter: I made it to the boss but couldn't beat him so I just watched the rest on YouTube. terrible ending to an otherwise very fun game.
