New Balance & Composure. If Ghost of Tsushima 2 or Bloodborne remaster gets announced I could die.

The answer was disappointing. In what no doubt was a mad fervor to educate the masses on his discovery, he hit R instead of S.

    alright lets see here

Grand Theft Auto IV (2008) - PC/Steam Deck
    9/10

Before jumping into my experience with this game over the last year and some change let me first recount my experience with the series. I was exposed to these games way earlier than I should have been due to Older Brother syndrome where I had a brother a couple years older than me who introduced me to things far before other people my age were exposed to them (including scene music in 2003). Anyway I poured hours into GTA 3, Vice City, San Andreas, and IV growing up but did not beat a single one's main story. I was totally content to enter cheat codes and running up the wanted level to see how long I could survive. I did this with friends and I did this alone, rarely if ever doing main story missions unless I had to so I could see more of the map. I got to the third island in the PSP port of 3, the second island of Vice City, the second island of 4, and I dont really remember how far I got into San Andreas. 5 was the first GTA game I actually played start to finish (twice) but I did spend a lot of time with 4 when it came out since it had the first online multiplayer mode of any GTA game.

I snagged this game on a steam sale for dirt cheap ages ago just to have, GTA games are always good fun and I never really thought I would actually finish the story here. I remember it being fun but tough as nails with an unforgiving checkpoint system. That's still largely the case here but I'm a much smarter gamer than I was when i was 16. I made sure to stock up at gun shops before every single mission, I utilized taxis to fast travel when I didn't feel like making the trek across the city, but I still slammed my head against the wall during some of the more idiosyncratic missions that haven't aged so gracefully.

Still, the bulk of the game has held up extremely well. The atmosphere of Liberty City is probably the best depiction of New York in video game history. The notorious car controls are actually a lot of fun when you get a grasp on them and realize the skill ceiling is ridiculously high but rewarding. The story is as tantalizing as ever, a grim telling of the American Dream gone wrong, a send up of both organized crime and the law enforcement system that enables it to continue.

My favorite moments in the game came when i was cruising around the night and day of Liberty City, combing through the radio for something fitting for the mood. The modern hip-hop station (for the time), the classic hip-hop station, the electro station, the vice city station, the liberty city hardcore station, and the hilarious talk radio station were all staples and added so much background context to this universe, and so much of the talk radio in particular holds up even today as the stuff they were goofing on is as relevant as ever (social media obsession, celebrity culture, excessive corporate greed, political hypocrisy, etc.). That kind of stuff is what makes GTA games what they are and I can't wait to see what they've got in store for the more auxiliary part of GTA 6's universe.

Overall I would recommend this all day to anyone that likes Grand Theft Auto 5, the denser map makes for an atmosphere you don't quite get from that game which is still a really fantastic open world in its own right. There's just something transformative about those gloomy Liberty City skylines that no other GTA game has matched yet.

Noted. As someone who hasn’t played IV, I’ve been thinking about picking the game up during the sale.

huge sale on select survival crafting titles over on steam fyi. might finally play no man's sky which i dont have to buy because my brother owns it and we family share. but in terms of what to buy, im tempted to give subnautica a look. grounded is not part of the sale which is a bummer and enshourded is only 10% off so its still a little more than im comfortable spending for early access. no valheim discount either but since thats only 20 to begin with its not a huge ask....decisions

Bend is a first party PS studio though, I don’t think they would remove it anytime soon. I think Horizon coming off recently I’d just for the upcoming remaster
