Some recent games I have played:

Castlevania/Ducktales/Ducktales 2: It is interesting how ubiquitous the platformer genre was for so long. As a kid I didn't even think of it as a genre, but rather as just a normal game; everything else was to be put into a genre. With Castlevania, this was the first original platformer after having played and loved the Metroidvania ones years ago. The Ducktales games had more charm, though.

Spec Ops: The Line: I was aware of the games' reputation, and it is definitely something more interesting than the other military shooters. However, the attempt to blame the player for the immoral acts of the character never really works. Just like in Bioshock, my decision to do the deeds of the game does not translate to my morality as a human being because I am going to obviously hold myself to different standards in real life than I would in a game. After all, I wouldn't be in the military in the first place, so the infamous white phosphorous scene is really just pixels doing what they were programmed to do. It is a step in the right direction, but video games still have not gotten morality choices right. I am still a good leftist even though I did what I was told in a fake reality.

Firewatch: Using the map to find your way around, often being able to take multiple routes, really felt like going back to being a kid and problem solving with your limited tools in the same way. The ending is controversial, and after a few days I really don't know where I land on it. For such a short game, the three different story threads (Henry's romantic background-your blossoming relationship with Delilah-the mystery in the woods) end up not really having to do with each other, so it does end up feeling messy. I was grateful that it wasn't some sort of cliche where Delilah was never really there and the person in the woods is you or whatever conceit seems to be used as well. How much of what Henry learned will apply to his feelings about his marriage to Julia? We expect cleanliness in storytelling but it doesn't have to be; not everything has to be interconnected and it rarely even does line up.

got past the first boss on a run in enter the gungeon!!! im struggling to find a rhythm with these controls but I am getting better every run. not used to twin stick shooters so the moving with one and aiming with the other is a little hard for me and then dodge roll being a bumper and reload being x it’s all a little hard to get a hold of at first

 

Pulled Calcharo (very sephiroth looking). Pretty high on the tier lists, which is nice for once lol. my luck usually is shit when not pulling on special banners

 

OK so apparently the Enotria demo is 8 hours long lmao.

Reached a room that is beyond fucking stupid tho. Tiny room with two strong enemies that don't separate and have spears so theres very little room to maneuver lol. thankfully an optional room of bullshit.

 

I decided to try out WuWa on mobile. It's literally a reskinned genshin lol. Down to the UI....I'm kinda disappointed they didn't make their game stand out from genshin in that regard. They should have tried to differentiate themselves. But I DO love the combat, especially the dodge mechanic. And the Pokemon, catching monsters to get new stats feature. Kuro (dev) usually nails combat, their last game Punishing Gray Raven was fun for a bit mainly due to combat. But WuWa definitely feels like it was made for kb/m or controller. And playing on a bigger screen than a phone lol. So I'll def wait for it to come to console whenever that is.
