That’s a wrap on The Callisto Protocol. Solid 7.5/10 and honestly I’m surprised by the lukewarm reaction. I know it had major technical issues at launch and granted it was a free game for me. Though still at times not only did it actually suppress expectations and scares, but it built dread wonderfully. People who swear by Dead Space and RE4 style of survival horror could be enraptured by this. Loved the performances too but yeah the story could’ve been explored. Obviously we’re probably not getting a sequel with the issues Striking Distance seem to be having. At times it seemed to be building to a jump scare and didn’t go for it which was nice. The character movement and quick inventory select being my main concerns. Good game

 

There’s a double barrel shotgun that I upgraded to have fucking homing shells so yeah I’d say we’re back

 

This is good to hear. I’ll move it up on my backlog.

So I'm finally going through the Yakuza games. 0 was fantastic.

Playing Kiwami 1, and Kiriyu just hit a tiny kid. WAT. Hahahaha.

Also Majima is a fantastic character.

 

Hopefully will wrap up Like a Dragon before Infinite Wealth

 

I really tried to like Callisto Protocol but if I wanna play Dead Space, I’ll just go play that.

 

That’s a very reductive way to look at callisto

 

I mean, I can try to get into it again but the first impression I got wasn’t great imo

 

Haven’t played AW2 yet it’s downloaded BUT one thing I will say that Callisto actually felt more like a survival horror than recent self touted games I played. Ammo and recourses were pretty scarce and the upgrades were pretty costly so I really had to choose wisely and save up.

 

there's a lot more to the melee and shooting than in Dead Space, it's almost like a combo system, with dodges included.

Also the pacing is wildly different.

And i played like 5 or 6 hours yesterday and literally every second was great. It is really well done and has it’s own unique vibe that is extremely entertaining.

 

CP’s release date and marketing strategy really backfired, which sucks, because it does seem like more than just a DS clone. Then again, I will never know for sure because too spooky 4 me.

tbf the first season or two of supernatural had some genuinely scary episodes. idk if later it just wasn't as scary or i just grew desensitized
