FYI if anyone was waiting to play, the second part of Lost Records releases next week on the 15th

Really looking forward to it, I enjoyed my time with the first part.

 

I need to do Blue Prince next, but right after I really want to try Lost Records. Never played a dontnod game I think. (Except Banishers, which I adored.)

 

Remember Me is a great game outside of the normal games they do that is also great.

 

Obviously very similar to Life is Strange. Mostly story oriented and choice affect the story outcomes and relationships.

My only gripe really was that I thought the end of the first part was corny. I enjoyed the story for the most part otherwise.

 

I always feel like people are blowing so much smoke when they say things like "modern classic" and "masterpiece".

 

How dare people have opinions

 

I think of them more as marketing terms but also high praise of a game, etc. Not a big deal.

even though I leave tomorrow for vacation I started up THUG 2. The first song that played was Jimmy Eat World’s pain and the nostalgia just HIT.

 

I obviously don't mind any individual feeling that way, but I do think out of control recency bias and hyperbole in general is bad for the critical discourse and boring

 

idk, I feel like the game(s) where people said it recently have all stood the test of time pretty well (Mario Odyssey, BOTW/TOTK, Elden Ring) and I'd say the judgement holds up. I think we're just very lucky to be living in a time where so many groundbreakingly good games are released almost yearly.

what I'm trying to say is... sometimes, the games are just that good.

 

Sure but there are also plenty of others where it doesn’t. We recently talked about the Ghosts of Tsushima hyperbole here for example.

 

Did anyone claim GoT was a modern classic or a masterpiece? Please name them so I can discard their opinion in the future.

 

I think that calling games a classic or a masterpiece is good when I do it and bad when someone who I disagree with does it

Overall though I do think that it makes discourse bland when it's phrased that way but sometimes it really is just that game hitting in a very special way

But with reviewers I grain of salt it because time changes a LOT of things and reviewers do not have the luxury of time

Completely agree with this and like I said before, it unfortunately can be used as a marketing tool as well and its hard to see where the two meet sometimes.

this is the key point I think. it can also work against a game, because some just... take time. and if you're rushing it you will have a dismal experience.
